Jordan Addison to USC (fallout)
I'm going to say this: Pitt was able to match USC's initial NIL offer; therefore, it wasn't all about the money here. Perhaps it was a combo of bringing in Cignetti and a new playbook + Mumphford as WR competition, who knows. The fact that multiple ex players, including some in the NFL, reached out to him and how fast Pitt was able to match the offer tells me that money isn't a problem on Pitt's end as well. There was rumors that Kancy and Hill were heading to Miami. Who know's if that was true or not. Either way, both are staying and I assume that they got paid some extra NIL as well. I've seen the national fallout and 3 letter networks (that typically don't report sports) are certainly swimming in circles. The tampering side of this is bound to get really really ugly, it Pitt wants to fight this, same with the companies that Addison was already contracted with. They could probably sue for damages, but I'm sure the folks from LA will simply buy out those contracts and call it a day.
This weekend was probably a wake up call for Pitt and the community at large. A successful football team helps bring in revenue for the city and to make that possible, business leaders has to pay NIL.

Why doesn't Pitt take it to federal court?? If it has the $$'s, take it to SCOTUS.

RE: Jordan Addison to USC (fallout)
SCOTUS is a bit extreme here. Our country has far more important problems than dealing with tampering of cfb players. And the same with our education system has far too important problems than this. This needs to be handled by the NCAA or some new governing body of college sports. Fine or suspend coaches/players/boosters or whatever.

Tampering is breaking a rule of the NCAA that is attempting to curb the free agency of players. If this was taken to court, they would probably rule that the restriction of free agency by the NCAA is illegal. So, Pitt and the NCAA are probably not going to push it.

This will persist until there is an anti-trust exemption or a new regulatory body superseding or supplanting the NCAA that has enough buy in from enough of the P5 (2/3) to have an effective mandate to restore sanity.
