JMU has wins over only 3 teams with winning records so far and the road win at Troy is something to hang their hat on.

Hart you constantly talk out both sides of your mouth with this crap.

For JMU, its always, we need a better SOS. For other teams, the worst SOS in the country is irrelevant.

I’m talking out of one side, the front side. JMU’s SOS is not good. We know that. Yes, Liberty’s is one of the worst.
The banner to wave this year is the undefeated banner. Not the SOS banner.

Most Programs at the top of the CFP rankings look down on us both when discussing the SOS topic and they would be correct. Although we could have a good discussion with Georgia on softness of schedule year to date.02-13-banana They will ramp up over their next 3 games playing a couple of top 25 SEC teams.

So what? Is it some kind of breaking news, or frankly anything to be disappointed about, that we're not as good as Georgia? If you thought that we belonged in that conversation, you're just delusional.

Anyone who is unhappy with JMU because we're not Alabama, Georgia, or Ohio State should really have just gone to another college.

We're 9-0 with a schedule that's in the middle of the G5 pack in terms of difficulty. I suppose if there were an 8-1 G5 team with a schedule strength in the 50s, they'd have a case, but there isn't.

ESPN normalizes both the W/L results and SOS with their Strength of Record (SOR) metric. They talk about it a lot when discussing the CFP rankings.

By that metric, JMU is top 10 in FBS, and may move up this week. ESPN has our SOS only a few spots lower than Michigan's.

Yes. Michigan is known to have played a very week OOC. They still have 2 top 10 teams though in Ohio State and Penn State that will ramp up their SOR. JMU will also get a chance to up its SOR against App State and Coastal who both should finish above .500

Unfortunately, the CFP doesn’t use SOR as a criteria. They use SOS. ESPN can talk SOR even if it is immaterial to the CFP selection process.
Now maybe that changes if the CFP rewrites the rules, but the P5 doesn’t have any reason to change the selection criteria because it tilts towards them with SOS being boosted by 8 or 9 conference games against good opponents.

Why is it important to JMU? We all will be crying the blues if JMU finishes 12-1 in the new 12 team Playoff era and another G5 conference champ finishes 12-1 but has better SOS and gets selected. It is the defining separator on the CFP’s selection criteria. You can’t control the Sun Belt games, but the selection of the 4 OOC games is critical to having an edge over other G5 teams.

I usually go read our game threads on the main conference CSN board following a game. I like to see how other fan bases view our strengths, weaknesses and performance. Boy, that was 10 minutes I'll never get back- simply unreadable. What a whine and ***** fest (and our fan base was not totally without fault either).

I rewatched the game this morning and the one underrated thing that stuck out to me was Sammy Malignaggi’s run on that last TD drive. Ran hard, made nice cuts, and ran through arm tackles.

Impressive for a DB turned into an RB. With Wayne Knight in the portal, SVH’s career probably done, Lawton graduating. It might be him, Black, Baldwin (Jarvis Green’s replacement) and a transfer next year.

Dominating win from about the 2 Qt on. Really just the one bad play giving up a long TD on a 3rd and 10 run from that point but too many good ones to count.

Great to see more out of the running game. The ToP was huge and I'm sure GStU was getting gassed in the 2nd half, but giving McCloud more chances helped keep them guessing. Keeping the chains moving on 3rd downs was key and something we hadn't done well on most of the season. The receivers were finding some soft spots underneath that let us get just enough to make the line to gain. Credit to the coaches if this was part of the plan based on the scheme GStU ran.

Really hope Jalen Green is OK. I went back to watch the play he got hurt on and it did not look good the way he went down. Obviously losing him would be a blow to the defense and team, but if it's serious that could have major implications for his pro prospects as well.

In the words of Mike Ditka, “Stop it!”

Can’t wait for Utah to roll out the “Salt Lake City” jerseys, or UC Berkeley to roll out the “Oakland” jerseys.

Or worse… Virginia Tech to roll out the Cow Town jerseys.
