I mean, Sid Gillman himself retired four of these guys' jerseys right after they played at Cincinnati, despite their impact being pedestrian compared to some who have played since. O'Malley was pedestrian outside of his senior year when he led the nation in passing and Gene Rossi was an all-conference guy for a few years (mainly because we were the only guys passing the ball back then), Dick Goist rushed for 1490 yards TOTAL in his career, Bill Shalosky was an interior lineman with no national accolades at all (was named all-conference twice).

By those standards, Goodman, Pike, Binns, Gilyard, both Kelces, DeLo, Mickens, Byrd, Barwin, Pead, Sanders, White, Wiggins, P. Young, Warren, Wilson, Temple, McClung, Silverberry, Blair, Edwards, Walt, JK, Wolfe, and hell, even Anthony Hoke should be in the Ring of Honor.

I would imagine we have three new additions in 3-5 years with Ridder, Sauce, and Bryant. The fact that Shaq is in and Mardy is not is laughable to me. Should absolutely be both...

Celek

Didn't include him as he was only had a 2nd team all conference nod and didn't have a crazy statistical year...though you could argue his one scamper down the east sideline did more than many of those players listed in raising the profile of UC Football.
Joe Morrison, Demarco McCleskey

McCleskey always surprises me...no idea why he hasn't been up there. Makes me wonder if Mike Warren just wouldn't be added either despite both of their careers demanding inclusion in the RoH.

McCleskey might be the most unheralded player in school history. 2nd most rushing yards in school history, most yards in a season and most rushing TDs in a career. He did that with Ray Jackson and a Richard Hall getting a significant number of carries. He is the victim of playing in an era where a lot of people weren’t watching and he was not a local guy like Gino, Richard and some others.

The other name from yesteryear that is surprisingly not on their is Ray Nolting. He was an All-American, two time All Buckeye Conference and Team Captain of the All Ohio College Football team in 1935. He was 1st Bearcat to star in the NFL, playing RB for George Halas’ championship Chicago Bears.

He was also a head coach at UC for a few years after he retired from the NFL. He was the coach of the first UC team to make a bowl game in 1946, a win in the Sun Bowl.

Correct. He was one of the first five players inducted into the UC Athletics Hall of Fame. He recruited a lot of the guys that Sid Gillman coached in his first couple seasons.

Does Richie Cunningham read this site? If not, someone should send him the CatWalk idea!

Legit if I had some connections I’d be sending OKIcat’s post to anyone that had an ounce of say in the athletic department. Former players would have to love it and feel honored and fans would love it to. Wouldn’t cost much and could even be used to get more donations.
