Truth ^^^ 07-coffee3

How do you know it’s the truth? Maybe he was competing for the starting job and the coaching staff told him he might be better off going elsewhere if he wanted to start? Which I’m pretty sure is what happened.

Then our coaches are idiots. Practice the players that are gonna play.

Tommy West can tell you that you really dunno.
Racecarguy was right...we had 3 QBs go down 1 year...no one knew we were gonna have to re-convert converted QB to WR Mo Avery from WR back to a QB.
Injuries can happen in an instant.

Pretty sure we used every trick play in the Boise State fiesta bowl playbook when we beat Southern Miss that year.

I can see that if Seth Henigan and Grant Gunnel looked equal during spring practice, the coaching staff is gonna “dance with who brung ya” as Bear Bryant used to say. With Seth having a year under his belt at QB and having earned Freshman All-American honors, no coach is gonna bench him unless the competition is head and shoulders above him.

I’m very comfortable with this move. There was a definite logjam at QB, especially considering Tevin Carter’s qualifications and the performance he put on in the Spring Game. I hope that moving up to the apparent #2 QB spot will keep Tevin happy. After all, Seth did have some injury issues last year, so Carter may get minutes sooner than he thinks.

Exactly.
No one should be surprised if you are watching college football.
The backup QB is the first guy to hit the portal.
No way we were keeping all 3 guys thru the Fall.
It may have even been mutual.
Is this what the keeping it real gang calls pushing him out?
Or was it possible he didn't see the PT that he was looking for and he's leaving?

They had to see what he had. But most accounts he looked good.

Have to transfer now or waste another season.

Torn Achilles are hard to heal problems. I think one of the two were going to enter the portal based on who was the leading candidate. I think the staff went with the guy that didn't have a possible recurring injury. Plus, I think Carter is waiting in the wings in time.

Plus you get one more year out of Seth assuming he doesn’t transfer.

Hard to say these days - but I think they each have 3 years of eligibility remaining.

Grant gets to play 5 seasons due to the 2020 COVID season. He's played 2 (including the short COVID year). He has 3 years of eligibility remaining.

Seth obviously has 3 years remaining - he doesn't get the free 2020 COVID year because he was in HS.

But maybe you've found a gray area that I just can't see.

I still think a possibility of the Achilles lurking is the main factor.

I had in my head that Gunnell only had one year of eligibility remaining. All of the COVID stuff has my years messed up I suppose.

I had in my head that Gunnell only had one year of eligibility remaining. All of the COVID stuff has my years messed up I suppose.

It gets even more confusing when you consider that:

1. NCAA football players in general get 5 years of eligibility, of which they can play 4. The clock starts when they enroll in college.
2. COVID added the weirdness of giving everyone that was active that year an additional season.
3. Henigan started his eligibility here in 2021, after "the COVID year", so he gets 5 years of eligibility of which he can play 4. So standard eligibility runs out in 2026 (had he redshirted, he could have played the final four years.)
4. Gunnell started his eligibility clock in 2019, and used 2 years of his 4 allowed playing years at Arizona. His eligibility would have been exhausted in 2024. He was given a year back due to "the COVID year", and then he used an injury year last year.

If I'm not mistaken, that means that Gunnell's eligibility will run out in the 2025 season (not the 2026 season like Henigan), but Henigan not getting the COVID year means that both Gunnell and Henigan each have 3 years remaining. Three years of playing is 2023, 2024, and 2025.

Pretty much what I said in #28 - although you give more details.
Both have 3 playing years left.
Grant has 3 to play 3.
Seth has 4 to play 3.
