Is the DJ Gone?
Man I hope so, that was the most awkward thing I've ever seen LOL. Also the band hardly played at all last season, did anyone else notice that? Hoping they make the game day experience more about the game and the band playing and less about corporate sponsorships and blaring advertising over the speakers. I hate to sound so negative, but this last season it seemed to all hit a peak with the advertising and forced activities (DJ and honoring So and So on the field because they paid for a spot to be honored - Todd Judy Ford SMDH). I just want to get back to the experience of a College Football game and the pageantry that goes with it.

Thanks for letting me vent 03-lmfao

RE: Is the DJ Gone?
It has worked other places. At least those in charge now realize they have to change the game day atmosphere to fit the younger crowd and are working on things to do so. The DJ wasn't a success but most things only work through trial and error. What works somewhere else doesn't work everywhere.

The biggest thing I think that will energize the younger crowd is if Spears follows though with tearing down the last god awful erector set expansion and builds a Party Deck/Beer Garden style seating along with restaurant themed food instead of concession style food.

If possible I wouldn't mind them building a full restaurant on to the stadium that could be open year round. I don't know how that would or could be incorporated but I think it could work.

RE: Is the DJ Gone?
DJ wasn’t a terrible idea to get the crowd pumped and to be a draw but I didn’t like it. I don’t think anyone liked it. I am ok with them trying things as long as they stop what doesn’t work. It was just more noise to drown out the crowd. How many “we are” chants never got going because of the DJ and the PA system? Happens every game.

What they need is to do something to get fans back in the stadium in the third quarter. Tee shirt toss; do the row of the game and lottery tickets and 50/50 drawing mid way in the third. Maybe half time beer specials. I don’t know what would work best but the team starting the second half with a lot of the energy in the stadium missing never helps.

Maybe, but I'm there to watch the damn game. It's like they spend all their time trying to distract me from the game LOL. What the hell, let me watch the damn game, I don't need to be entertained every second I'm there. It's just way too much going on. Let the crowd cheer, let the band play.... Hells Bells, the entertainment is the game not all that other ****, it's just noise to me.

I completely agree. I sit down low behind the defense and am 100% there for the game. I don’t care for all the extra noise on the PA system or the DJ. I would like to see them do something to encourage the crowd to come back just to get the energy up at the second half kickoff, I’m always stating at my seat by then so whatever they do wouldn’t change my motivation. Sound like you’re the same.

I thought DJ Ass Hat or rather D2 lovin' playin' Donnie Jones was gone after the 2010 season. I mean he played 16 DII or NAIA games in 3 years. Take those 16 games off his record at Marshall and he is 39-41 instead of 55-41 in Huntington.

RE: Is the DJ Gone?
They gonna have to do some things to attract younger fans, even at he expense of us old guys. The people that started us going to games as kids are real old or gone as are a lot of the people that followed Marshall after the crash. I'd say the average fan is 60-70 years old. Replacing an aging fan base is tough to do. Plus these kids can't watch a whole game. No attention spans. They have to do stuff that breaks up the game for them a bit. If this world is around in 20 years after the boomers are gone or decrepit, I don't want to imagine what things will be like. I mean my mom just turned 75, yesterday. She was born in '47. So that whole generation is at least 70. Gonna be crazy when the inmates take over the asylum.

RE: Is the DJ Gone?
Yeah, they have to do something for the younger kids to make Marshall attractive. I have taught my son all about Marshall and its history. My mother was best friends with Gail Morehouse (Gail McDowell). So I have been close to the crash since I was little. My son goes to all of the Marshall events. He went to the green and white game and got his pic with Vinny Curry. He brings all kinds of Marshall gear home because he approaches players and he gets gloves, etc. He actually got into the Henderson Center and was shooting ball with a Lady Herd player... lmao! She was texting Tavion for him. hahaha He sent me videos of him draining threes.

Access is there. We just have to get the kids excited again for Marshall football and basketball. WSAZ and the local channels need to pick up the ball again and slather the tv airwaves with plugs for Marshall... Coach shows, PLAYER shows... anything to get on the local airwaves to generate buzz.

RE: Is the DJ Gone?
I think the DJ thing is stupid and I just don't get the appeal but my kids seem to like that kind of stuff. Maybe it can be fixed or just keep the music as a pre-game thing on 20th street.

My biggest issue is that they really need somebody to MC all of the on-field entertainment and advertisements. The promotions, blaring music, marching band, and cheerleaders all seem to happen at the same time and it's just a mess.

Yeah it's all just noise to me now. They need to let the stadium "breath" so to speak.

As for the younger fans we definitely do have an issue with attention spans. I think the party deck would work (I'd never use it though).
