P5’s will ALWAYS win the recruiting wars. We may get a few guys here and there, but the resources they have, and now NIL, is extremely difficult to overcome.

And don’t be fooled, a good bit of our guys have p5 offers, but I’d bet many of those are contingent.

P5: “You’re our qb! We’ll take you…… if Joe Montana or Tom Brady don’t commit” Two weeks later: Joe Montana commits and no ship available from that p5 school anymore. This happens all the time.

And we probably do the same to guys as well. We probably have 200 offers out. We obviously aren’t taking them all. But there is no doubt Cig and staff have some players identified as priority recruits, and they aren’t accepting more commits that leave those priority guys out cold. There are plan b and c guys in those offers.

That’s right. I forgot. UVA and VT probably also offer milkshakes. Maybe JMU should have stayed DII so we wouldn’t have to suffer the ignominy of losing every future recruiting battle to in-state P5s, even though JMU might develop a history of beating them.

JMU should just know it’s place, right? Ambition and growth are a deadly combo and only lead to heartbreak. An App fan with 7 years of watching FBS recruiting experience has spoken and deigned the limitations of JMU’s future is, like it or not, to forevermore live in the recruiting shadow of UVA and VT. Dukes fans everywhere should expect less and be happy with it. 07-coffee3

Bless your heart.

Interesting to look back and see we were projected to finish 5th in SBC East last year.

Nice bling for the 2022 team winning the East.

It was mentioned on the Spring Game broadcast that maybe in a few weeks JMU would receive a decision.

I know this will be an unpopular opinion but I'm not a fan of giving rings out for finishing on top of one side of the conference, especially when we knew going into the season that we would be ineligible for the championship game. It's like the colts hanging a AFC finalist banner in 2014, we can acknowledge we had a great year without going over the top

Normally I would agree, but I am okay with it both because this was the first year of FBS play and the team wasn't allowed to play in the championship or bowl game. The goal here I assume is to motivate the team first by showing what they accomplished in so little time and create a rallying cry that they deserved a championship game appearance.

I completely get your point of view and can imagine that some other Sun Belt fan bases feel the same way.

In my opinion, that team accomplished everything that they were eligible for that season and did it in a dominating fashion beating Coastal to win the East. I don’t think we should do this going forward (and I doubt that we will) but this was a unique circumstance and I don’t have an issue with recognizing the team for a historic year. If certain donors wanted to put up the money for rings I think that it’s great to recognize the team and I love anything that can be shown to recruits.

That's the way I see it too. They weren't allowed to play in a bowl game nor the conference title, but there's no doubt that they won the east. If we had an average season and they got rings for that, I would absolutely take issue with that. But in a case like last year which was incredibly out of the ordinary, they deserved to get something.
I hope we look back on last year fondly as the years go on. They essentially had nothing to play for last year and yet they played better than most thought they would.

RE: ESPN: SBC East Preview
I'm pretty sure it was more that it was the first FBS season than anything about winning the East. The top of the ring says 1st FBS Season...that's the message here. Yeah, on the side it says Kings of the East, but I would be shocked if this was anything more than celebrating the guys that stayed aboard and killed it in the first FBS season. Granted, had it not been a good season I'm sure they wouldn't have gotten rings, but they did, so why not celebrate it. I wouldn't expect rings going forward.

I wish they had put "Division Champions" on the rings.

It sounds like this week and perhaps this afternoon will bring us the announcement on whether we will be eligible for the conference championship and a bowl game. Fingers crossed. Sounds like JMU admin is cautiously optimistic. DNR article on it this morning.

Regardless, I have total faith in our administration to present an amazing case in our favor.
If we don't get it, it certainly won't be because of our admin.
We have done everything right up to this point. That has to count for something (I hope).

Agreed and am hoping for good news later today or this week. Article says NCAA Board meeting is from 11 to 3, and there may be an announcement after it.

If we don't get it.....Bourne and Cignetti should be on every sports program that will book them to hammer the NCAA. The only thing the NCAA despises and will cave to is a groundswell of negative press.

No update yet I’m guessing? I think the article from Noah mentioned the meeting was scheduled for 11 - 3:00 pm with an announcement expected after.

Don't know that the NCAA would come out with a public announcement one way or the other. I'd guess communication will come from JMU.

While it would be nice to have an answer, there's the possibility the committee didn't get to this agenda item or act on it yet. I'm sure they had a lot of other business items beyond this one today. They also could have requested more information, tabled it for another meeting, etc.
