Puerta Rico Basketball
Monty Scott continues to play well. Played 20 minutes last night and scored 7-points, had 6-rebounds, including 2.2 offensive rebounds, 1-steal, and 1-assist. Did no turn the ball over nor commit a foul. Played very good defense as he shut down Eric Ayala from Maryland.

In last two games, Scott’s played 45 minutes and produced 9 extra scoring opportunities and 9 less opponent scoring opportunities via 6 offensive rebounds and three steals. He gave his team two negative scoring opportunities and opponents two additional scoring opportunities by committing 2-turnovers.

Overall such provided his team in each game with positive net of 3.5 more scoring opportunities and opponents with 3.5 less scoring opportunities. It’s impressive for one player to have done so, do, as one doesn’t see one player do that often, no less playing pro ball.

Scott changed his shooting form three games ago, and since then has shot 42.8 percent on three’s.

He’s also averaging thru his first five professional games 20.6 mpg, 7.6 ppg, 4.6 rebounds per game, including 2.2 offensive rebounds pg, and 2.0 assists per game.

Monty’s makes his starting debut this Saturday night joining two former NBA draft picks Jordan Crawford (Xavier) and Tremont Waters (LSU).

Congratulations to Monty!

Let's be honest, you can trace the performance of EMU basketball to that of Monty. He was great early in the year, pre-covid. Then he became a shell of himself, and EMU languished as well. He is a very good ballplayer; we saw what he could be.

Yes if we had pre covid19 Monty the whole season we would have easily finished top 6-7 in the conference

Very true.

I'm just curious. Were all the players double-vaxxed?

I'm trying to overlay phases of Covid and two NCAA MBB seasons (I'm ignoring 2019/20 because it ended the season a month, i.e., the tourneys early).

In 2020/21 basically athletes were not vaccinated as they were not in the highest risk groups. Some teams got clobbered as Covid spread through them

Fast forward to 2021/22. We were exiting the Delta wave and about to hit the Omicron wave. By then EVERYONE should have been double vaxxed.

Did people who were double vaxxed have long lasting systems from Omicron? Were these actually cases from Delta which were more severe?

I don't, in hindsight, know or was really aware, but if I were an AD I'd indicated double vaxx to play. Those who opt not to get vaxxed but just test, are playing Russian Roulette, just hoping the next severe case isn't them.

In my case, I'm double vaxxed with Pfizer and boosted (late Sept). I debated hard getting a 2nd booster even if only confers many antibodies for say a month. That month would have been perfect for me. I was hoping to wait until fall for a booster with Omicron-specific protection.

I was a little leary of 4 shots in say 12 months (02/21, 03/21, 09/21 and say 02/22).

Monty Scott was traded to the PR Grises de Humacao team for a first round pick. He's joining D.Spottsville who played for Humacao last season. Also joining the team is David Stockman, John Stockman's son. The new player development coach is former Dallas Maverick PG JR Barea, who traded for Scott.

Both former EMU players are room together at a beach faculty. Nice life. I'm going to see them play two games in Kissimmee (near Orlando), Florida, March 8-11th. Should be fun.

This is from Detroit News:

"Leaders of DTE Energy and Consumers Energy said Thursday crews aim to have 95% of more than 700,000 customers affected by this week's ice storm back online by end of Sunday."

Yeah, PR seems a bit warmer than MI this week. 03-lmfao

BTW, a reminder why I left MI. This was D.C., not PR, yesterday. Yes. we had PR weather yesterday.

"Washington sets daily record high temperature of 81 degrees
Thursday’s 150-year-old record was smashed. A record warm start to the year has pushed Tidal Basin cherry blossoms to the green bud stage."

RE: Puerta Rico Basketball
Arrived yesterday in Kissimmee, Florida, to watch both Monty Scott and Darien Spottsville play for the Grises de Humacoa, a professional Puerta Rico bb team in a 2-game tournament. The team has been conditioning and practicing for just three weeks. Four key players will be joining the team that plays it's first regular season game on March 22nd.

Humacao won their first game by a score of 124-96. Both former EMU players and the team looked very impressive. Scott started and scored 15-points. Spottsville came off the bench and scored four-points and played great defense. Both played in half the game.

Will be attending a Humacao practice tomorrow, and the day after they'll be playing a PR team that has Tyrese Evans, a former NBA 1st round selection. Will keep you posted on the outcome of the game.

RE: Puerta Rico Basketball
Humacao won 84-83 tonight. Scott came off the bench and was a big factor in the team overcoming a scoring deficit and winning the game.

He's a combo guard now playing his best ball. His bb IQ was demonstrated all night long.

Playing 24-minutes he was his team's second highest scorer with 17- points, including shooting 3-6 on three's. He filled up the stat sheet by shooting 4-4 from the foul-line, had 4-rebounds, 7-assists, 2 steals, and forced 2 other turnovers including taking the first charge in his bb career. Committed but one-foul and one turnover.

He's getting separation and scoring from all over the court.

Scott put in the work in the off-season and it shows. His laser passes to recipients resulted in 7-assists to players who converted their shots.

His dribbling is now at a high-level, and is playing a man to man defense with intensity.

Spottsville did not play due to a minor injury. Had a nice conversation with him. Terrific young-man. Very humble. Gave him some tips to improve his jump-shot and shooting from the foul-line. Looking forward to seeing how he plays.

Got to meet, speak, and have a photo taken with former NBA player JJ Barea, the GM of the Humacao team.

Two days ago, Humacao won it's third straight pre-season game beating Ponce 90-76. Scott had another good game by scoring 15-points. Don't know if Spottsville's played. Humacao opens it's season on March 22nd.
