It reads as if perhaps 4 schools are highlighted on the cover, BC, Virginia, JMU and Maryland.

Regional covers. Kind of a nice touch for a magazine.

Yep. Most regions are featuring big P5 schools.

I did see App St, Coastal Carolina, UCF and Boise St featured in other regions, not other G5 schools.

I've never ordered this before, but thinking about multiple copies with the East/JMU cover. Would be a cool gift to hand out to friends/family.

Can order two copies here at a little better price than preordering them separately: https://publications.learfield.com/colle...2457382985

I bought last year’s edition and this cover is the perfect blend of all of my fandoms (excluding Maryland). Awesome exposure.

RE: Phil Steele magazine
What??? No CUSA schools?? How can this be?!

3 Sun Belt schools on various covers.
I cannot help but notice:
-Only 2 Virginia schools and no VT.
-How often is a transition team one to really care about or look out for?
-A lot of Carolina schools (2 of them Sun Belts). ECU is left out (not that they SHOULD be there, but just an observation).
-How many AAC schools?

Edit: Just realized UVA is on a cover as well

Phil Steele always does a tremendous job with his publications. The big boys don’t bother doing any research on those not in the P5, while Phil obviously puts in a lot of time with his research.

RE: Phil Steele magazine
My ranking of why this is awesome

1) It will bug the Sh#t out of VT fans
2) It is great PR for JMU
3) It will but the Sh#t out of ODU

I'm more of a Lindy's and Athlon guy but will look for the JMU cover when the magazines are out. That's always a Barnes & Noble trip that feels like Christmas.

How did we manage the timing of this?

I think this is a big deal for JMU, we went from not being featured in the magazine to being on the cover.

This will go a long way with removing the stain of fcs (not hating on fcs) and hopefully propel us to an App State kind of brand which I believe is strong and what G5s aspire to, program respect.

...those of you that are going to come back with, "we are already respected!"

ok fine, I mean regional P5 fans see JMU on the schedule and want to go to the game knowing that it's not an early season blow out and if the P5 team does not show up prepared, they just may get their butts kicked year in and out

I could be in the minority here but JMU as a piece of the cover makes more sense than UVA, BC, and Maryland. We are the new kids on the block for FBS and people who are invested in college football and would read the annual preview are interested in learning about our program.

I’m surprised an east coast school like Clemson, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, etc didn’t take the spots of the other three but maybe it’s a push for something new since those schools are always featured.

Florida is featured on the Florida region cover. The other 3 mentioned are on the East Southern region cover along with Coastal Carolina.

Yep.

Been getting Phil’s rag for years.

It is a great honor and is actually a pretty big deal that we are on the cover in year 1. I think that just goes to show the brand we have built and the respect Phil has for our program and fan base that he chose to put us as one of the schools on the cover.

Make no mistake, as much as Phil is THE guru for college football, this is also his one and only money maker….covering college football, with his rag the biggest piece….so he wouldn’t put us on the cover if he didn’t respect us and think it made good business sense.

Im actually quite surprised he chose us and can’t wait to see what player is represented (Percy?) and how it looks. My preorder is in.

As fans, alum, student, etc…,we should view this as an honor for ourselves as well. JMU Nation is real and turns up. It is recognized by many.
