I truly believe there is some merit to this. For example, one of the same Republican senators (Lana Theis) who blocked Hoadley from the Trustee appointment, just tried to take down State Senator Mallory McMorrow for supporting LGBTQ community...until McMorrow responded in force yesterday -- watch the pinned video:

Quote:In their denials, Republicans said that Democratic governor Gretchen Whitmer had failed to identify quality candidates to serve on the WMU and Ferris State boards.

True or not????? I know answer will follow along party lines.

Some Hoadley's qualifications are listed here: https://wmich.edu/news/2022/02/67181

I think it depends on who you speak to but the democrats were furious he didn't get at least hearing to prove he was qualified. I believe the WMU faculty were happy to see him get appointed.

He's clearly qualified with his Bachelor of Arts degrees in social relations and women’s studies from Michigan State University. The question is, can he clearly define what a male and female are with this degree?

Wasn’t he denied because currently a WMU student?

I did hear one of the senators mention it. I will say this, I wasn't exactly enthusiastic when I heard Hoadley attended Michigan State. I would prefer all WMU alumni sitting on our board.

I don't think there's a law against it but it's a huge conflict of interest. There are student groups that deal with the board. It seems inappropriate to have an actual student also ON the board.

Then you recuse yourself on that issue.

Or do we expect the Trustees to not continue their education while holding an education position? That would seem even more strange.

Edit to add: Not that it matters because this is all speculation because the guy didn't even get a hearing to discuss any of this.

We need someone who has a passion for the school & has strong ties to it, not a random grad student.

BTW here is the bio of the guy who retired, Ron Kitchen:

With more than 40 years of experience in economic development, he has been a businessman, city administrator, elected official, and formerly a staff member to a United States Senator. He is an experienced consultant in local and national politics.

Kitchens previously led the economic development agency Southwest Michigan First, as chief executive officer and served on the Collaborative Development Council for the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. Prior to that he served as CEO of the Corpus Christi Regional Economic Development Corporatio

Yeah the guy was some random grad student that represented the City of Kalamazoo in the Michigan House from 2015 to 2020. Clearly has no ties at all. LOL

I'm wondering what makes you say he's a random grad student other than your blind loyalty to a political party. The fact that they didn't even give this guy a hearing is total BS. Have the guts to have a hearing and address any concerns you may have directly with the nominee.

Hoadley is an independent consultant and the membership engagement director for Michigan Donor Alliance. He previously served as a Michigan representative for the 60th House District and served as the minority vice chair of the appropriations committee and a member of the Higher Education and Community Colleges Subcommittee.

Prior to his service in the state House, Hoadley was the president of Badland Strategies LLC and worked for other nonprofit organizations. He is engaged in a number of nonprofits such as CARES HIV/AIDS Service Organization, Mothers of Hope, OutFront Kalamazoo, Equality Michigan and LGBT Detroit.

Hoadley also is currently a WMU graduate student pursuing his Master of Business Administration. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degrees in social relations and women’s studies from Michigan State University.

His appointment to the WMU board is subject to the advice and consent of the state Senate.

Sounds pretty well qualified to me. Sketown dbag and GRR Bronco only vote for people if they believe Trump won the 2020 presidential election.

He is also a human, so he probably needs to recuse himself from any issue that would involve humans too since we are going to use the broadest possible definition, I guess.

And no one with a functioning brain actually believes Trump won the 2020 Election. You just have to be willing to publicly perpetuate the lie. That's the true test of leadership & patriotism.

Speaking of "Southwest Michigan First", one has to wonder if this wasn't GOP retribution for ex-Michigan House Speaker Lee Chatfield's resignation from the economic development agency due to his past stance on LGBTQ issues. But then again, Chatfield had so many things come out as of late it's not really surprising he resigned when he did...
