He is referring to the 6 bowl games controlled by the College Football Playoff i.e. the New Year's Six Bowl Games (Sugar, Orange, Cotton, Rose, Fiesta, Peach)

They are accessible, just no very likely. The highest "Group of Five" champion goes to one of those bowls each season. The actual 4 team play-off is a separate issue.

I could have worded the question better.

My point is, I don’t think Cincinnati gets the playoff bid last season if they had not already been announced to be joining the Big 12.

The announcement of Cincinnati to B12 definitely raises the profile. But I don't know that they wouldn't make the playoff last year had they not been invited. Interesting to discuss. The four team playoff has not been with us very long and the optimist in me says it is open ever so slightly for non cartel teams that have a great season and the P5 teams(plus ND) lack 4 solid choices. Certainly many suggested that there was no way that a non P5 team would ever make it to a 4 team playoff. Now that it has happened it is only because they were soon to be P5.
Like I said, I think the door is closed but not locked. Anyways, aren't we B12 bound too?
