Yahoo Sports - Opinion: UCF’s Gasparilla Bowl rings should fuel the 2022 Gators
https://sports.yahoo.com/opinion-ucf-gas...41609.html

Quote:UCF’s rings are valid. FSU made state championship rings following the 2015 season that ended in a Peach Bowl loss to Houston and Florida had some “SEC East Champions” rings made following a win over Iowa in the 2017 Outback Bowl. Are those also meaningless or “well-deserved,” as Jim McElwain said at the time?

Quote:Until then, the Gators’ goal should be to make sure that they aren’t in a position to play UCF in a bowl game at the end of the year unless it’s in the College Football Playoff.

Totally shocked to see a Gator writer think so clearly and reasonably.

"The Gators lost, and any fans trying to discredit the best-in-the-state claim by saying “the state was weak” are saying more about their favorite team than the Knights. Let this be fuel for a rivalry that’s only going to continue to grow as UCF joins the Big 12 as soon as 2023. By the time the Knights arrive in Gainesville for a game in 2024, it could be an unquestioned battle for the state with FSU still on the schedule as well."

I find amazing at the amount of bias that exists in todays "Sports Media"... guess it is forbidder to admit that UCF was the better team and that is the reason that they are heading to the BIG XII... Maybe next year the "Sports Media" will admit that UCF was a better team and deserved to play in a better bowl vs a better opponent!

Outside the CFP, every Bowl Game is an exhibition and attractive matchups are what fans want to see.

The Gasparilla Bowl was one of only a handful of Bowls outside the CFP that sold out...as UCF and UF Fans turned out in droves for a game played the day before Christmas Eve.

The Kickoff/Classic Games are becoming more popular than the Garbage Bowls now-a-days.

CHICK-FIL-A KICKOFF GAME
ALLSTATE SUGAR BOWL KICKOFF
CAMPING WORLD KICKOFF
DUKE’S MAYO CLASSIC
SOUTHWEST CLASSIC
VEGAS KICKOFF CLASSIC

You would think the attention the Gasparilla Bowl received would be something the bowl executives would want to replicate.

Raymond James stadium is losing usf as a tenant soon. They might be willing to host neutral site games in the near future. UCF vs Miami in Tampa would be fun for a Kickoff game.

I'm sure they will have a kickoff game. I also assume usf will do "home" games with big schools at Ray Jay to keep them on the schedule. I'm actually not against this. Houston has done it as well. I get we have a stadium, but I would have rather had a shot at a legit school in 17 and 18 than a home game against GT, even if it meant playing at Camping World.

How to plan a "legit" shot school in 2017 like UF or FSU?

UF was 4-7.

FSU was 5-6 and Jimbo Fisher left in the middle of the night.

UCF was right to sign home-home deals for their own on-campus stadium.

I agree, but now that usf is leaving Raymond James Stadium. This opens an opportunity to convert Tampa into a UCF's secondary market. If we played an occasional neutral site in Raymond James vs Miami or another school that's too scared to play UCF in Orlando. It would be fine.

Kickoff Neutral site games are becoming more common. I would rather play a neutral game in Tampa than Atlanta.

UCF should never play a game in World Camping Stadium because its an insult to our home stadium. However, Raymond James Stadium in Tampa is a different story. I liken it to Florida/Georgia in Jacksonville, FL.

Once they have an OCS they will be restricted like we are to the terms of the financing which pledges the funds from home games to the payment of bonds. This is a main reason why we would not agree to trade a game with UF at Camping World stadium. It is not just a 1 game issue it also affects season ticket sales as well. Hard to sell season tickets if your best games are not included. And believe me, neither Camping World, nor Ray Jay are going to allow the schools to get the benefit of the ticket sales.
