Yep...solid get, will be interesting to see who all ends up moving on in the portal at the RB spot.

Fick has been itching to move Ethan Wright to the defensive side of the ball. Just sayin….

Tried to look up where he was on the other side of the ball. Saw a reference to DB. is he a candidate for Sniper? Even the LB position seems pretty well stacked rn. i don't see corner in his future but possibly safety.

Truth be told, i would like to keep Wright at RB. More than anyone i have seen previously that is currently on our roster i trust him to get the short yardage. Montgomery is versatile on Punt returns and really picked up his production in that role later in the year. Gun to my head, i think McCelland is the one that needs to have the talk with Coach. i'm not trying to run anyone off (and don't think Coach is either) so if McCelland wants to stay, i think he should be more than welcome to do so. As they say in the pro game, you can never have too many good vets, and keeping McCelland is not going to hurt our salary cap.

He would play safety if he moved over...was a hyper athletic LB/S hybrid where he went to high school. They ran a stack with two SSs in the box and he was just lighting people up for 4 years in that role.

I heard Luke asks him every day if he would like to play D.

On that note- per BCJ pod- Luke is tinkering with the D. I think he clearly realizes he needs to find a pass rusher (And better D overall than we have today) and is willing to try different people there.

The issue with Wright at RB is he only has one speed: full blast. He doesn’t wait for a hole to open or move laterally, he just bashes straight ahead. That works sometimes but not often enough. It’s a great instinct for a defensive player though.

Maybe a linemen, but that sounds like a great way for someone in the secondary to get charred.

Kiner chose to go to Roger Bacon, so he didn't always play against the best teams in the city. They didn't play in the GCL against Lasalle, Moeller, Elder & Colerain. They played against teams that sometimes had trouble fielding a full team. So I would be cautiously optimistic about his first years at UC.

Evan Prater played against even lesser competition. Teams like Deer Park. Mariemont, etc.

But noone is suggesting that Praeter gets handed the job before the season starts. He needs to earn it like every other player on the team.

RE: Corey Kiner is a Bearcat
FWIW Kiner in high school was a slightly more athletic version of Mike Warren, coming from a guy who watch Warren thrash his defenses for 4 years and scouted RB or teams facing RB 7 times in three years.

He will not be a home-run hitter like Ford, but he will be a guy who gets extra yards after contact and is crafty about finding seams/holes in the defense. I'm very excited about the addition...especially considering the guy averaged 4.1 a carry and 8 touches a game as a freshman in the SEC.

Definitely see a lot of Mike Warren in Kiner. He's not going to be the guy breaking off runs of 75 yards, but he is not going to be tacked for a loss and will set up the passing game so that they can convert on 3rd and 4 when they have to instead of 3rd and 7+.

Wonder if those people said the same when he chose LSU?

Whenever UC lands a major talent the local naysayers are out in full force.

RE: Corey Kiner is a Bearcat
All I'm saying is that we already have a crowded RB room, so he'll need to come in and compete for PT instead of instantly declaring him the next RB1. Just like when Ben Bryant came back from EMU. He needs to compete and win the job if is to become the starter.

Couple of things I noticed:
- Kiner has great balance and has a tendency to always fall forward to always get that extra yardage.
- He has a really strong upper body, he used the stiff arm to throw potential tacklers off of him on multiple occasions.
- He's definitely small but shows good vision and great agility on cuts.
- Unlike Jerome Ford, I didn't see any highlights that showcased elite top-level speed...hopefully Brady will be able to post some speed stats over the summer practices. I'm really curious to see how he stacks up against the rest of the RBs on the roster.

Overall, Kiner looks to be a complete back and he should feast on AAC/Big12 defenses. I think he can get up into the 220 range and hopefully improve his top-end speed after Brady is done with him. I feel like he is very similar to another Cincy product who ended up at LSU, Spencer Ware. Ware had a solid career at LSU and ended up getting drafted in the 6th round.

This is pretty much exactly how I saw it. I don't think we'll see any 70 yard runs but not sure if the first guy brought him down once in all of those replays. Great balance, seems strong, and good vision.

He's definitely shifty and quick, and he loves that spin move. i'm curious to see how good a blocker he is in pass pro?
