Are we sure the 21 that was lined up at DE a good bit was Boler? The DE wearing 21 looked to be a good 4 inches taller and 40 pounds heavier than Boler has been at UAB.

Bet it was Jaylen Mayala, the Indiana transfer

Thanks everyone for listening. Matt I was pretty sure it was Boler but I could’ve been wrong. Mayala is #22 according to the roster but in spring games we know how that goes.

Not sure who it was (possibly Mayala) but it definitely was not Boler. Several players were in different numbers.

Definitely did not look like Will! Also, who was the big 44 on DL who wasn’t listed on the roster?

The roster numbers from the spring game were all out of whack.

Who was the second DLine in the spring game? I assume Forte and Fish were the first line. But who was leading the interior guys on the other spring team? No stats provided this year, so as an out of state fan, I have no idea who played or made plays on defense. DLine has me worried this year.

Anyone note that all but one of our OLBs on the roster (Mayala) are redshirt seniors? Next year really concerns me.

I saw that. It’s surprising they’ve not been able to land DLine transfers this year. UAB is moving to AAC and the DLine is regularly putting up impressive numbers and moving players into the NFL and CFL. As the latest example, Alex Wright has recently been projected as a mid rounder.

I can’t help but think that UAB is probably being outbid this year for NIL by other mid majors who are even more desperate for transfer talent. It’s the Wild West on steroids for recruiting in 2022. Portal. Covid years. NIL. Realignment. NCAA implosion pending. Alabama laws on NIL. Complex.

But Andy Kennedy seems to have certainly figured out the complexities of the portal. Maybe he could consult with football portal recruiting.

Second DLine was a combination of Kevin Penn, Devin Manigault and Michael Fairbanks. Fairbanks is a critical part of the line with the ability to play inside or outside. Coaching staff is still working to get more help on defensive front.

Basketball and football portal recruiting are not remotely the same.

Thank you. So Manigault was on the field. Good to hear that. Depending on how people recover from surgery and who makes it to campus this fall, we may need some snaps from him this year even though a RS freshman. I hope he has bulked up a bit since the fall.
