Odd Goings On- Lamar Returning To Southland
Just one year ago, Lamar announced that it (along with SFA, Abilene Christian, Sam Houston, and later Incarnate Word) was leaving the Southland to join the WAC. Now, in a complete about face, it is going back to the Southland. Strange maneuvers to say the least!

That is strange. At the moment, I still think we made the right choice with the OVC over the Southland. If UTA had chosen the Southland, and they had added ORU as well, I'd probably lean the other way. Travel still looks better in the OVC, but if I am doing the traveling I'd rather go South than North.

Sam Houston and Jacksonville State heading to FBS has thrown this whole WAC/ASun thing into chaos. They were the most recognizable names of the bunch, and a lot of the impetus behind the idea that an entire conference could move to FBS. With them gone, it changes a bunch of stuff.

I didn’t get the move in the first place. Ridiculous travel, and now with the CUSA raid, they lose their flagship basketball school in NMSU who served as a bridge between the regions.

I’m very curious what UCA does; Teague was very vocal and gung-ho about leaving the Southland to a “rising ASUN” and seemed to think it was their ticket to getting to FBS

In UCA's case, the ASUN, provided they add the right teams, at least puts them in regular competition in the same states that both the major FBS programs in the state do. They probably benefit more from playing North Alabama and Austin Peay far more than say Lamar gains from playing Utah Valley.
