Good point, because Memphis was independent for a whole bunch of years. Most of the 20th century, in fact.

For all sports, or just football?

Exiting Teams

Houston 43 games 1971-2021
UCF 4 games 2005-2010
Cincinnatti 1 game 1974

New AAC

SMU 90 games 1916-2012
Tulane 36 games 1916-2013
Tulsa 19 games 1937-2013
Navy 12 games 1951-2009
UNT 11 games, 2008-2021
UAB 10 games 2005-2021
UTSA 9 games 2012-2021
Memphis 4 games 2007-2012
ECU 4 games 2005-2010
Charlotte 3 games 2015-2021
FAU 3 games 2013-2016
USF 0
Temple 0

Houston will continue scheduling Rice one way or another so I’m not overly concerned about losing this matchup.

AAC conference matchups; Rice will definitely enjoy playing AAC opponents on a more regular basis after joining said league full time.

Exciting Future AAC Football Matchups
Rice vs Navy
Rice vs Memphis
Rice vs Temple
Rice vs USF
Rice vs East Carolina
Rice vs Tulane
Rice vs Tulsa
And of course Rice vs SMU

I see no reason why the Silver Glove won't be played annually in perpetuity. I would expect the Bayou Bucket to be close to 50% of the time, whether every other year or two on two off.

For all sports, or just football?

Our football AND olympic sports were in the MVC from '68-'73, and then the olympic sports went to The Metro Conference in '75, while the football finished out the century an independent. Well... We joined C-USA in '95, so almost the rest of the century. Meanwhile, Basketball, etc, joined The Great Midwest Conference from '91-'95.

In the first half of the 1900s, we were D-1aa (or whatever the nomenclature was then) and were members of the Mississippi Valley Conference from 1928-1934, and then the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association from 1935-1941. Other than those years, we were independent.

So, in graphic form:
First football season in 1912-
1912-1927 - Indy 15 years

1928-1934 - MVC
1935-1941 - SIAA 13 years

1942-1959 - Indy (Switched to D-1a in '59)
1960-1967 - Indy 25 years

1968-1973 - Missouri Valley 6 years

1974-1994 - Indy 20 years

1995-2000 - CUSA 5 years

So, 24 years in various conferences, 60 years as an independent.

We were independent until we joined CUSA so it’s pretty easy to figure.

I believe ECU, UH and Memphis for UCF. I am not sure that USF played enough games with UCF.
