Today I have the privilege of announcing that over the next three years, we will be making significant enhancements to athletics facilities of all our existing sports, giving us the opportunity to enhance both the student and fan experience.

This $30 million investment is made possible by increased fundraising, ticket sales, and other athletics revenue streams. One of our goals with these upgrades is enhancing campus life at UTRGV. It’s important to remember that, per state law, neither tuition dollars nor state appropriations may be used to support our athletics programs, meaning all the funds for these projects is coming directly from athletics revenue streams.

You may have already noticed construction occurring at EHPE1. That is part of our first round of renovations, including a new weight room for our student-athletes.

Future renovations at EHPE1 include upgrades to the UTRGV Fieldhouse, the university’s largest multi-purpose facility that houses basketball, volleyball, and campus and community events, include:

• a new 15,000-square foot entrance plaza/atrium;
• a new lobby including a Hall of Fame and Hall of Honor area;
• team store;
• concessions;
• public restrooms;
• a new, unique way to watch games;
• new ribbon and video boards;
• and new seating.

We are actively working to enhance other facilities as well, addressing student-athlete welfare with the addition of permanent locker rooms for teams that didn’t previously have them, including golf, soccer, tennis, and track & field.

We are also moving to improve the fan experience with the addition of a new sound system at the soccer and track & field complex and a concession stand at the tennis center.
