So this will put the NEC back at 7+1 in FCS football with Bryant’s departure and Duquesne as an affiliate, right?

Since when has that ever been a concern of yours?

I expect 3-4 more moves in the Northeast (depending on if Fairfield goes to the CAA).

The AE will want to get back to 10 and the MAAC wants to get to 12.

My guess is the CAA passes on Fairfield to wait for Howard.

I think AE grabs Sacred Heart.

The MAAC adds FDU and Mt. St. Mary’s, and the NEC responds by adding New Haven.

Not sure it would be Sacred Heart. They may be less willing than Bryant to have football in the Big South. I think that spot is Quinnipiac's if they want it, or Fairfield's if they want it.

23 sports is a lot for a non-P5, non-Ivy school. And there probably aren't many P5s who have 14 women's sports.

Le Moyne, Bently, S. New Hampshire, Mercyhurst and New Haven all being targeted for replacements or expansions.

Which league? The MAAC? LeMoyne tried to get in the MAAC twenty or so years ago.

A lot of Northeast-10 members are like that. It probably dates back to the time when the conference didn't allow athletic scholarships except in basketball.

Stonehill and Stony Brook need a rivalry trophy—might I suggest a stone be the item they covet?

Undergrad enrollment:

Stonehill College - 2,417
Mercyhurst - 2,431
Le Moyne College - 2,801
Southern New Hampshire - 3,380
Bentley - 4,061
New Haven - 5,097

Getting close to being contradictory.

Agreed RE: the MAAC picking up FDU and/or The Mount, they seem like better basketball adds and cultural fits, particularly FDU, who would fit in Monmouth's spot nicely.

Le Moyne I think is the only one of those D2 four that would fit the MAAC well, the others might be better suited for NEC.

Bentley could go to any of the AE/MAAC/NEC , but would probably prefer either America East + Big South FB (ala Bryant), or to Reunite with Stonehill and Merrimack in the NEC for football.

Mercyhurst I think would be a better fit for the NEC based on endowment size/enrollment and football, as well as conference travel partners since would have St. Francis and Duquesne to play nearby (though MAAC might work with Canisius + Niagara being just up the road in Buffalo).

I don't see either the AEC or the MAAC excited at the prospect of SNHU either for some reason.

Also worth considering for SNHU/Mercyhurst is that if they joined the NEC along with Stonehill, the NEC would have enough members to start their own hockey conference...

I think the calculus is a little different for some of these schools given how a good amount of them are academically prestigious and resourced enough to be more selective and thus have lower enrollments (particularly Bentley and Stonehill, who are academically well-regarded and have $200M+ endowments).

Not to mention that a lot of the listed schools are already within the geographic footprint of the AEC/MAAC/NEC, so travel costs may not change significantly.

If these schools are already traveling across much of the same territory and funding scholarships for much of the team's already, it may actually make financial sense for them to move up if they can stomach the additional scholarships and facilities upgrade costs if it means more exposure/interest in students applying to the school .
