Tennessee is a very, very white state after you leave West Tennessee. It is what it is. Talk to most any white Tennessean not from Memphis and they will not only tell you how dangerous the city is and that you're likely to be shot, there is also a strong chance they will refer to the city as Memfrica. Pathetic if you ask me, but that is what we're dealing with when it comes to the rest of the folks in Tennessee.

Are they wrong though?

I live in Midtown. Nextdoor is nothing but crime posts. Being shot = crime. I just wanted to see if the experience outside the city is the same there (on Nextdoor). Lots of affluent folks inside the city breh.

Take a look at income statistics for the communites you mentioned versus Memphis. Just because Memphis has some wealth doesn't mean there isn't a HUGE income disparity between Memphis and the other communities you listed. Surely you can't be that simple minded, or are you trying to make a dishonest comparison?

That is my thought. That stadium is not that old. Opened in 1999.

the stadium was built too quickly so Bud wouldn't have to endure another year playing at Vandy....it's an erector set. One of the worst and least pleasant places to watch a game in the entire league.

F**K em...Live with it.

23 years old is not old enough to replace a stadium...

If 23 years is the lifespan of a stadium we want another forum in 2027...With State money.

Hmmm...Maybe I need to get off my high horse...LOL

Pyramid build in 1991 and Forum built in 2004...But not really comparable situations. Forum was built for a new NBA team...Not just keep a team happy.
The Titans have a 30 year lease with the existing stadium. The stadium is ok. It is not that impressive for a NFL stadium. I am sure this move is all about keeping the Titans in Nashville. I do not know if the Titans are 'demanding' a new stadium or not.

Nissan Stadium
Opened: August 27, 1999
Capacity: 69,143

The stadium will be 23 years old this year.

TN was run by Democrats back then and Memphis/Shelby County was more red back then. Or was it more blue back then when blue used to be the GOP color?

1976 Expansion Candidates
Memphis
Seattle
Tampa

Governor - Democrat
Senate - Democrat
House - Democrat

1995 Expansion Candidates
Baltimore
Charlotte
Jacksonville
Memphis
St. Louis

Governor - Republican
Senate - Democrat
House - Democrat

Just a guess.

Quote:The funding is expected to be contingent on a new stadium being built with a roof, which would make the new venue more viable to host a Super Bowl.

Last year, Nashville and Tennessee Titans officials planned $600 million in Nissan Stadium renovations before engineering reports revealed more than $1 billion in repairs and maintenance are needed to maintain a "first class" stadium.

The state also committed a portion of its future sales tax proceeds in the stadium redevelopment area to paying for construction.

Some comparisons...

Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas, NV
Construction cost: $1.9 billion

AT&T Stadium, Arlington, TX
Construction cost: $1.3 billion

SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, CA
Construction cost: $5–6 billion (estimated)

TBH, a $500M stadium these days is kind of a dump.

**** that. Why on earth are we supposed to pay for a stadium in Nashville? Hell I don’t even think people in Nashville should be paying for it. But if Lee places that burden on state taxpayers I’ll damn sure not vote for him again.

When researching for the post I made above, I saw that when the Raiders moved to Vegas, Oakland still had debt payment from their 1995 stadium upgrades.

As Raiders Leave for Vegas, Oakland Still Owes Stadium Debt from 1995

Quote:The city of Oakland and California's Alameda County, meanwhile, remain saddled with an estimated $83 million in debt from a 1995 renovation of the Raiders' Coliseum stadium, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The city made the expensive fixes to the stadium to lure the Raiders back from Los Angeles.

You must not know the history of the pyramid? It was not built for the Tigers and was supposed to be nba ready. The Tigers got 8mil from the state to build an on campus facility and the city strong armed the University out of that money. City and University got "slinked" on that deal.

Even concerts I've been to in the Pyramid sounded like crap. At least we ended up with a giant Bass Pro eyesore. Thanks Sid.

huh? building Red Neck Disney where TN, AR, and MS all meet is brilliant...way better than sitting there empty.

It’s true. Texas has become successful by promoting all of their great cities. Tennessee is a one city state. It’s sad but true.

I agree...TN is just so backwards. Memphis, Chattanooga, Knoxville, Gatlinburg...so many great destinations outside NashVegas.

I'd leave for Arkansas in a second (if not for my family being here). legalized weed, expanded medicaid via obamacare, increased the state MW, cheap land, and easy access to Memphis.

Memfrica isn't racist. Where do you think Memphis got it's name? The original Memphis is in Eygpt on the Nile river, just like this one is on the Mississippi river. Why do you think there's a big Pyramid Bass Pro shop as part of the sky line? So what's wrong with saying Memfrica? If it has to do with race, the comparison is to Egyptians, which is actually a complement. Not an insult.

Why do you think there's a big Pyramid Bass Pro shop as part of the sky line? So what's wrong with saying Memfrica? If it has to do with race, the comparison is to Egyptians, which is actually a complement. Not an insult.

It's certainly intended to be racist by most people dumb enough to use it, who largely have no idea that Memphis is already named for an African place.

I know no one wants to talk about it here or even acknowledge the truth in what I'm going to state, but its mostly about racism.

And you probably deny that you are a racist, because you know it is wrong to be a racist. The problem is not knowing what racism is allows you to ignorantly deny your own.
