Duke vs UNC - Poor Refs
When Duke and UNC play each other in the final four, I will actually feel sorry for the refs. It has to be extremely stressful for the refs not knowing which team to favor! When UNC or Duke play anyone other than each other, the refs automatically know which team will get the benefit of the doubt on close calls. Fouls are a lot easier to call when you know ahead of time which team will be in foul trouble. LOL!

The Heels will get screwed for sure.
After Duke/Carolina CBS will want to promote Coach K winning a natty as he retires.
I feel sorry for the Kansas/Villanova winner.....they won't stand a chance either.

A bunch of excuses from fans of 2d and 3rd rate programs. The reason your team seldom beats Duke or UNC is that your programs are weaker. Period.

You don't want to hear it but by the time you get to the Final Four, the officials are the best of the best. They make a few mistakes because it's impossible to ref games perfectly but it's very unlikely that they'll rob one team or the other. The days of incompetents like Pete Pavia (remember him, Tarhole fans?) or Booker Turner doing Final Four games are long gone.

The question was about time in the league, not in the NCAA.

We know how things go in the league, especially if you complain in public. KH

No excuses. I whole heartedly agree that the reason lesser programs like Clemson lose to Duke and UNC is because of the vast talent disparity and not because of officiating. However, that still doesn't mean that the ACC refs on the whole are not biased toward the "blue bloods". There is of course no way to prove this one way or the other but us fans of 2nd and 3rd rate teams know this bias to be true while you blue blood fans know it to be false!

I also agree that the final four refs are usually pretty darn good and generally call fair games. I was just using this game specifically to make my generalization about ACC refs.

By the way, my "favorite" ACC ref of all time is Lenny Wirtz. When I was in school, we had a fellow by the name of Tree Rollins. It was almost a certainty that Tree was going to be in foul trouble in any game called by Lenny. I am convinced that Lenny would have called a foul on Tree at the beginning of every game just for "stepping on the court" if he could have gotten away with it!

Good luck to both UNC and Duke - I hope that one of you guys wins the championship.

Wirtz was dwarf scum who ran a for profit camp at UNC-Ch in the summer. He attempted to toss me out of a game in Reynolds when we were harassing Murry Jarman and it went over the top. I ended up running out of the Colosseum. I always liked Tree.

The backdoor connections between some of the ACC refs and their camps or their children has been a problem since the late 60's. Sometimes it's premeditated but sometimes it's the result of a university hospital.

RE: Duke vs UNC - Poor Refs
When I saw the thread title I assumed it meant the officials selected for the UNC-Duke game had performed poorly in the tournament. So far, my observation is that describes almost every officiating crew so far. It would be hard to single out just one crew.

I agree with the top 3, I don’t know after that. WF seemed to get a lot of protection this past football season.
