RE: WNIT Elite 8 vs MTSU Game Thread
Given they had 22 turnovers, their two best players did not play well, and an opponent who averages 7 points/game scored 27 against them easily, its remarkable they had the opportunity to miss three opportunities at the end of the game to win.

Great season which will be difficult to duplicate even with everyone coming back next year. They had several scheduling advantages this year, nearly no significant injuries, and won most of their close games. And in fact not every player improves or even plays at the same level year to year. Anyone who disbelieves that can take a look at Lockett's shooting stats from last year to this year. She certainly remained the outstanding player on the team but her offensive effectiveness was greater last year. So it would be important to continue to search the portal for additional players who could strengthen the bench. They had only Jansen who consistently provided consistently good minutes at guard late in the season.

Heartbreaking way to end the season, but what a season it was. The team played their hearts out and way over-achieved what was expected by anyone, including me.

Thanks Rockets for a lot of fun this year.

Interestingly, they were one of the youngest teams in the conference this year (I will post data on that sometime), so the potential is there for another great one next season.

This game couldn't have been more exciting! Was surprised that Sophia was even able to go. Imagined that every pounding running step had to hurt her teeth which were pretty banged up.

There is a reason that both Nan and Hannah are here. They certainly give us a lot of depth which was important throughout the season. However their lack of athleticism was an issue last night.

Biggest thought for me in this one was that Tricia would not at least try a couple of possessions where we tried to strip the ball once it went inside. We had a bunch of folks with 0 fouls and I feel that their post was not going to handle pressure at all. She dribbled the ball waist high the whole game. We NEVER made her beat us by finding an open look if she was shut off. I know that the 3 was a worry but that was an obvious strategy that was certainly worth once she had got to 15 points.

Love our lineup for next year. A lot to look forward to for sure. Congratulations to Tricia and the team.

I agree with you about the defensive strategy last night. The strategy made sense, given that MTSU loves to shoot three-pointers, but at some point you have to mix it up a little. Cullop has one defense that she plays the whole game, every game. We play it well, but we are predictable.
