looked to me like he is having trouble seeing the ball. Overcast day.

1-2-3 inning by Shaw. Terrific outing for him. I'm assuming Linskey comes in to close things out in the 9th (unless we pad the lead some more in our half). And that allows Shaw to be available again on Sunday for an inning.

Inning 9: Bulman having a great day going opposite field! Smokes a double to RF to lead off. Guy flies out, but can't advance Bulman. Becker pops out. Let's see if Walsh can get Bulman home with 2 outs.

And he does! Single through the left side brings home the run! Owls up 7-2! Hoyle fouls out to end the inning. On to the bottom of the 9th--let's close it out!

Linskey on to finish this.

- Ks the first Herd swinging on gas upstairs.
- nice defensive play by Gallo on a slow grounder gets the 2nd out on one pitch.
- Ks looking to end it!

Owls win!

And to think his one out was a shot to the deepest part of CF. Just wish he'd be a little more consistent game-to-game. He's either hitting everything on the barrel or having one bat AB after another. Really strange.

Thankfully, he was "on" today, because our other top 5 hitters (Woody, Smiggy, Garibay, Becker) were a combined 2-18 with 7 strikeouts.

And Walsh comes through with his second consecutive two-out RBI of the day.

7-2. At this point, I'd go with Zaskoda or Deskins to close this out. No point wasting Linskey. I'd still take Shaw out so that he can be available on Sunday.

Linskey in to pitch. I guess the logic is that he was already warming up. I just hope Cheito doesn't try to use him again tomorrow if we need him to close it out in a tight ball game.

Only 12 pitches for Linskey. Could he be available again tomorrow?

RE: Rice vs Marshall - Game 1
Linskey 1-2-3 with 2 Ks.

One of our best pitched games of the season, and Chandler's second consecutive strong, 6-inning outing. Chandler/Shaw/Linskey combined for a line of: 2 runs, 4 hits, 2 BBs, 1 HBP, 11 Ks.

Offense came through despite 4 of our top 5 hitters having rough games. Really good to see Walsh get a couple clutch hits....and Gallo continues his two-week hot streak.

I am encouraged by how the other guys picked up the slack. That's a good sign, I think/hope.

Chandler's first win at Rice, although he's been a bit of a hard luck pitcher as of late. Owls absolutely need to win at least 1 of the next 2, and get that series win. The schedule gets a bit tougher after this week's conference slate.

Anyone know what's up with Roel Garcia as Smith is listed as tomorrow's starter, and Sunday's starter is TBD.

RE: Rice vs Marshall - Game 1
Caught the last 7 innngs driving home from Houston today. My thoughts on the game ….

This is the way we used to expect things to go for a Friday game. Solid pitching, good hitting and tight defense. And the game only lasted a little over 3 hours as opposed to the 4 1/2 hour game I saw on Tuesday night!

Do it again tomorrow Owls!

No! I did not know that. And 2016 was such a banner year.

OK - make noise.

Tx Tech with a walk off steal of home plate against UT. The pitcher never looked up. Amazing. Here's the clip...

Here's another angle-- the UT pitcher is clueless...

Texas got their revenge (consolation prize) today, run-ruling TT 12-1 in 7 innings. Tech won game two 16-12 on Saturday in 10 innings. Based on the score and Tech being home team, I assume they won on a walk-off grand slam.

I'm guessing Texas drops from #2 and Tech moves up from #16.
