Malcolm was rewarded too often last year for simply going through the motions & bringing zero energy to the floor.
I doubt that Minott would have stayed even if Penny had played him until his tongue dragged and he laid out on the court gasping for air. He had a goal to move on and so he did. I loved some parts of his game and thought he could be a really special college player in another year, but he's gone now. So be it - that's the culture now....

So you think if Minott was given 5 more minutes a game he would decide the NBA was not the place to be and stay in college?
I mean, he appears to be a solid 2nd round pick as is, another 5 minutes a game would convince him to give up his NBA aspirations?
That is the reason I am fully on board with him not taking more of Williams minutes, or having Williams play in a position he would not excel at. More minutes would still end with Minott leaving and I think Williams at the 4 was more valuable to us than 5 extra minutes for Minott.
No. I think he would have still opted to test the draft, but he would not have entered the transfer portal.

RE: Josh Minott BOH!!!!
I much rather give Dandridge the opportunity to play the 5. If he has one of his bad games, which he had a few, then slide Willimas over but I thought Williams was much better at the 4 and would not like to see any silly fouls playing the 5. Minot was too often in no man's land on D. Thinking he would help out inside while his man buries a 3.
I really liked his athleticism and the ability to finish at the rim but his overall game needed a lot of work.

If Dandridge would stop dribbling the ball, I would be ok with the minutes he is getting, possibly even a few more.

Josh's #1 goal is to play in the NBA.
Josh is invited to the combine and seems to be firmly in the draft.
Josh is also still in the transfer portal.
What we expect...
Josh will be in the NBA/G league next year.
Josh will not return to Memphis or to any other school.
What some here are presenting...
There is no way Josh returns to Memphis.
It's like I tell youngsters in my profession, when they say "there is 0% chance of that happening". There is almost always a chance of something, and words matter. So don't look like a goof and say 0% unless it is REALLY 100% factual.
I believe Josh will be drafted early second round and sign a life altering contract
Penny misused him badly
Duren and Deandre were more important. Play them as much as possible. That, and Minott's inability to play the wing, limited his minutes.
It's funny that people say Penny needs to put the team before young player NBA development. And they whine about Penny's long rotations. And when Penny shortens rotations and puts the team before some younsters with potential, the same people whine that players should get more minutes.

There were for sure times where Minott should have played more, but playing him more wouldn't have kept him here. How he was treated has nothing to do with him wanting to go to the NBA right away.

Life altering as in "getting a guaranteed $4 million" sets him up for the rest of his life (unfortunately $4mm at 20 isn't life-altering)
or
Life altering as in "getting a guaranteed $4 million" leaving prematurely when he could have stayed in college another year and been drafted top 10 and get a guaranteed contract of about $23 million.

Not fixing the jump shot isn't worth the risk. Part of paying him whatever he gets right now, will be based on thinking that he can.

Potential is inversely related to his age so every year he came back and didn’t develop certain things could easily knock him from second rounder or late first to not drafted. He is basically being solely drafted on potential right now.
Could he move up higher possibly if he all of a sudden shot amazing from three next year? Sure. Should he risk 4 million guaranteed for it? Hell no. That’s not even considering the opportunity cost of giving up a year on the end of his career by staying another year. And to say 4 mil wouldn’t be life changing money is ridiculous. That’s more money than most people will make in their entire career. Absolutely not life changing to start off with all of that at 18 or 19… Pshhhh
