NIT 2022
Lots of great games it looks like.

UVa over a tough UNT team in OT

Vandy beats Dayton

Bonnies in a close one over Oklahoma

A team I literally know nothing about, Wazzou, beats up on SMU. I figured the Ponies to go deep

I wish they scheduled the games M-W.

I will watch the TAMU vs Wake Forest game on Wednesday. Two teams that should have made the big dance.

That’s going to be one hell of a game. Even the NIT underrated the ACC, it’s a shame they aren’t playing in MSG. Can’t get no respect!

RE: NIT 2022
Why did Dayton have to play 2 road games? They were one of the first 4 out (along with SMU and Oklahoma who both lost in the 2nd round like Dayton, and A&M who is still alive).

“ Despite being the overall No. 1 seed in the National Invitation Tournament, the Dayton Flyers will play on the road in the first round and in the second round if they advance because of the First Four and the boys basketball state championship games being held at UD Arena.”

Thanks.

But you would think they would try to play someplace nearby like Wright St.

I guess the cost of using someone else's gym was prohibitive.

I think Syracuse actually could've made the F4 in the NIT. But they screwed themselves in the regular season losing some games they had control of.

RE: NIT 2022
Talk about chalk. In the 16 games in the first round, the higher seed won every game. The Sweet 16 consists of all the teams seeded 1-4 in their brackets.

Nine of those 16 come from P6 conferences. Of the two P6 teams that lost, #5 seed Colorado was the only one to lose to a non-P6 team (St Bonaventure). #6 seed Mississippi State lost to Virginia.

But in the second round, three of the #4 seeds knocked out their #1 opponent. Only Texas A&M survived. Six of the Elite 8 teams are from the P6.

4 road teams won. Oregon, , No. Iowa, St. Bonaventure, and Dayton. Based on your comment, they had some reason they couldn't play at home. All but St. Bonaventure lost on the road in the 2nd round.

RE: NIT 2022
The NIT only does 1 through 4 seeds. The remainder (10 of the 11 automatic qualifiers, and the bottom 6 at-large) are paired as road teams against the nearest seeded opponent (not in their conference), which mostly works (e.g., Vandy vs Belmont, Dayton vs Toledo, SMU vs Nicholls, Utah State vs Oregon, etc), but it's never perfect (e.g., Colorado vs St. Bony ... except that St. Bony won).

If you look at the NET ratings only Colorado (70), had a NET below any of the unseeded, and just barely verses at-Large Santa Clara (67), Missouri State (68). Dayton was the only seeded team that could not host, due to the First Four and the Ohio Jr High and Sr. High State Championships.

The only game they had to make a call on hosting because both teams are not seeded, is St. Bony vs Virginia in the 3rd round, with Virginia, who had to host Dayton getting the nod again, probably for being a bigger venue, easier to get to.

As it was all the top 8 (seeds 1 & 2) won, while 4 of the next 8 seeded won (seeds 3 and 4) and 4 of the 16 unseeded won; but of the four unseeded to win 2 came from major-6 conference (Oregon, Virginia) and 2 came from upper mid-majors (St. Bony of the A10, Northern Iowa of the Missouri Valley) who are in the conversation annually for at-large bids in the NCAA. In the 2nd round, with 10 of the 11 single bid conference schools already eliminated, we saw more balance.

What's left are 1 #1 seed, 3 #2 seeds, 2 #4 seeds, and 2 unseeded who were at-large berths. Of those 6 are from the 6 major conferences and 2 from upper mid-Majors (BYU and St. Bony). This is pretty much as you'd expect. Home teams went 5-3 in the 2nd round, they went 11-5 in the 1st, 16-8 overall for the home teams. Seeds went 12-4 in the first, and half the seeded and half the unseeded survived the 2nd round. And since the two unseeded are playing each other it'll be the same in the 3rd round.

I am not surprised at all. The at-large are pretty similar to the 11 and 12 seeds in the NCAA tournament, part of the churn, where anyone of them can come out on top. It's really hard to predict as a result (except that it wont be one of the automatic berth schools).

Who is an automatic qualifier? Regular season champs who lost in their tourney?

Yeah, knocking off Virginia is big.

Xavier and Vandy in a good one too.

Was fun watching the Bonnies pull it off. The X vs V is a fun one too.

Yep the Bonnies got shipped to Colorado on short notice then had to pay a visit to Oklahoma. They were controversially denied a home game against UVa yet still won all 3

Most impressive

Xavier squeaks past Vandy 75-73.

Will play St B in MSG, which they are familiar with.

RE: NIT 2022
Congrats to Xavier on the win.

Vanderbilt made a critical mistake toward game's end and leading by nine points: VU fouled a three-point shooter. From that point, and after XU hit all three free throws, the Commodores collapsed. It was a painful way to see the season end, but we have improved significantly under Jerry Stackhouse and there is now hope in Nashville.
