Two Ohio FTs ... then a quick Pierre layup.

8.5 seconds left ... Ohio leads by 1 ... and will throw in the ball

Owls take the lead 64-63 with 6 sec left!

And Ohio makes layup at the buzzer to win 65-64. Crazy finish. Good effort Owls!

Ohio's throw in goes way long and OB. Rice got the ball back with no time advanced. 8.5 seconds left.

Pierre makes a bucket with 6 second left -- Owls lead by 1!!

But Ohio hustles down and sinks a buzzer-beater ... to win 65-64 ... and sink the Owls' season.

So close!!!

Difference in the game Ohio shoots 15 FTs while Owls shoot 5. And 14 Owl turnovers to 8 for Ohio.

Wow, heartbreaking loss. But a solid effort against a pretty decent MAC team. We're going to miss Pierre - he was a helluva grad transfer. Nice to see Mullins with a solid game in his final Rice contest as well.

Now the offseason begins. The key is we bring back Fiedler, Poteat, Evee and Olivari. We do that and this season was a step in the right direction. Not as big of a step as I would have liked, but the injuries were just too much to overcome (Olivari never was fully healthy - Mullins wasn't either but he didn't miss any games - then we lost 2 of our top 3 guards off the bench and the true freshman Geron). And for those who say injuries are part of the game, look at what happened to Baylor after they lost two of their main rotation guys.

We'll know whether most of the core guys will be back pretty early on. A lot of guys have already made up their mind by the end of the season and enter the portal pretty soon after the season's end to maximize the number of bigger schools that have scholarships available. I cannot fathom Fiedler would transfer - he seems to be at Rice for the education and he's basically the focal point of Pera's system. But Evee and Olivari could announce pretty quickly if they do want a change of scenery.

Would Evee be a grad transfer? Because he's already used his one-time transfer coming from VMI.

He can grad transfer without penalty, but I don’t think he will have finished his degree at Rice this year. I doubt all his VMI credits transferred over (and even if they did-it would mean he graduated in three years).

I think we have him for another year-it’s after next year where we could lose him.
