Yep, bad loss for the SEC in this one. I thought Tennessee had the best shot. So, I was wrong. Michigan belonged.

Now all I can say is I should have known better. Has Barnes, with many great teams, ever made a final four?

A potentially bad loss for the SEC, as the league needs a team in the Final Four. I picked Tennessee to reach the Final Four at our office bracket competition. I truly thought this would be UT's year.

It might now be up to your Auburn Tigers to carry the league banner for a Final Four appearance, JRsec (though Arkansas is a sleeper).
Auburn has the ability and depth needed to do so. What is missing is consistency. Arkansas is the same without as much depth.

If UCLA beats St Marys, they will also have 35 official SW16 appearances.

I count 39 Kentucky Sweet 16 appearances. Probably should have been 40 this weekend. But full credit to Saint Peter's.

From what I've seen, I agree.

Another blue-blood in to the Sweet 16 -

UCLA advances again.

UCLA is starting to pull away. I'm not surprised that their winning, they're one of the 10 or so teams that could win it all. I'm just surprised how easily they are doing it, St. Marys is a darn good team

Agree on pedigree, but until last year that blood hadn't pumped in years. It's likely to have some clots.

Kentucky has 44 official Sweet 16 appearances. They have 45 on the court, so to speak, but their 1988 trip was vacated by the NCAA.

Similarly, "on the court" UCLA now has 36 sweet 16s, one more than UNC, but their 1980 trip is officially vacated, so ..... 35.

As with any sport, it takes a coach... Mick Cronin is a pretty good one

UCLA/UNC. Doesn't get too much more blue blood than that.

Yeah, the 2010s were kind of a 'lost decade' for UCLA. Still, during that time, from 2010-2019, they did make the tournament in 7 of the 10 years, with 3 appearances in the Sweet 16.

A lot schools would kill for that kind of hardening of the arteries, LOL. :)

IN hoops California Los Angeles, Connecticut, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina, and Villanova all wear blue don't they? The color must be a prerequisite.

Yes, they are #1 and #3 in NCAA titles, tied for #2 in Sweet 16s with 35 each, and #2 and #4 respectively in most tournament appearances (UNC 52, UCLA 49).

We really need another big. We almost got Kevin Obanor but he went to Texas Tech.

IMO, Tennessee and Auburn were the best teams in the SEC this season. Hence my surprise with the Vols loss. Auburn is going to have to carry the torch for the conference, I don't think Arkansas has the horses.

Arkansas looking like they're pretty safe tonight vs New Mexico St... But then allows possibly a 4 point play before halftime.

NMSU with a mere 17 points at the half vs. Arkansas (which scored only 26). Total points: 43

From SI:

The lowest-scoring first half in tournament history in the shot-clock era finished with a combined 33 points, when Indiana scored 13 and UCLA scored 20 in the first half of their 2007 tournament meeting; Missouri State (21) and Wisconsin (12) who also finished with 33 points in 1999.

Can't have the heavyweights facing each other too early. Save it for the main event and hope they don't screw it up.
