RE: Basketball Offseason
For all those interested, Gonzaga is not set in stone just yet. Hopefully it will be soon. And as for the schedule, it's not even close to being done. So be patient.

We just got a committment from LA Hayes. He is a 6'5 wing from St. Vincent St. Marys and is a rising senior.

It’s also being reported in the R-C and in Spokane. But let’s wait until Danny confirms.

If we keep him, this is a steal. Keep an eye on another local kid we offered, rising junior Jonas Nichols at Hoban.

If you are being snarky, perhaps you should learn to read. This was the headline:
Kent State men's basketball team finalizing agreement to play Gonzaga in December
Per my source, and what I said was that it wasn't set in stone yet. I will repeat, it is likely to happen, but it is not 100% done (meaning a contract has been signed by both schools).

I can read just fine, Danny. I have a Master's Degree and everything!
I'm surprised a man of your stature would be so easily triggered by what was intended as a nod to your having personal relationships within the athletic department.

Jim.
This is old news. They have been trying for years to get someone to pay for naming rights. Like putting advertising on a garbage truck.
Frankly , court should be named for Laing Kennedy. He is singularly responsible for making basketball relevant at KSU .
Dix family said awhile ago if a deal could be made on stadium for $$$ they had no objections.

Won’t happen Davey and Kent State have history going way back.
Not the place for this forum but always heard a former CEO of Davey had a falling out with KSU.
Similarly after Thurman Munsons death , Steinbrenner approached KSU about building Kent a new baseball stadium to honor #15. Brage Golding then KSU President and not a sports fan offended George. George was a blowhard but very generous to causes he believed in. ( Huge benefactor of OSU marching band ) George walked and that was that. BTW Golding is also one of two KSU presidents with nothing named in their honor.
History not on the side of KSU when it comes ti big donors.
New business buikding hopefully breaks that mold. Time will tell

I'd like to know more about the Davey Tree/Kent falling out. Maybe we could do a podcast on Kent's greatest mistakes. The Steinbrenner thing is just sad - the stadium is nice now but took a long time to get there.
Welp, it's up to us, guys. Collect a few hundreds bucks and we can name Dix Stadium the "College Sports Network Stadium brought to you by FlashFanatics.com".
Oh, and basketball...go Flashes. And no cell phones in the lockerroom this year.

RE: Basketball Offseason
Not sure there's much that can be read from the starting lineup for these games, but looking at the YouTube feed of the first game it looked like 4 expected starters. Carry, Jacobs, Thomas, and Payton (assuming Payton changed his number to 31). The 5th starter was Rollins. That third wing spot will be the interesting one to watch. Rollins is someone I personally have high hopes for. If the scouting sites are to be believed he sounds like someone who can be a defensive factor and we all know how Sendy and JC will feel about that. Also, getting the first start is an indication that they're happy with his off-season work.

Agree about Rollins ... was actually initially surprised he was redshirted last season, but ultimately think it was the right move. Now, as an experienced freshman, with true wing/forward size, I also hope he lives up to the recruitment hype.
One plus is with Carry-Jacobs-Thomas there should be no rush to be anything more than an opportunistic scorer, at least early in the season. If he can find/build his niche defensively I think it can all flow from there.
Jacobs is the perfect example of a player building his game (and minutes on the court) from defense to offense over his time at Kent. Maybe Rollins, too.
