Kamala HQ Teeters on the Precipice as More Bad News Hits at an Inconvenient Time

Quote:Though we’ve heard one lame excuse after the other from Democrat apologists about why the turnover rate in Kamala Harris’ office seems high considering she hasn’t even hit the two-year mark of her time as Vice President, the fact remains that key people on her team in senior leadership roles are running – not walking – to the exits ahead of the 2022 midterm elections.

The latest announcement on this front is perhaps the most concerning one for Team Kamala. According to the Washington Post, Harris’ “longest-serving aide” Rohini Kosoglu, who worked as Chief of Staff in her office when she was in the Senate, was part of her failed presidential campaign team, and who currently holds a domestic policy advisor role in the Veep’s office, will be stepping away in August, citing “family time”:

Her decision to leave comes amid concerns among some Democrats about high turnover on the vice president’s team and Harris’s political viability at a time when President Biden is saddled with low approval ratings.

In an interview, Kosoglu — who has three sons, ages 9, 6 and almost 3 — cited a desire to spend more time with her family and dismissed the notion that her departure should be viewed as part of a pattern of staff instability. Kosoglu has advised Harris on a range of issues, including maternal health, reproductive rights, broadband access and voting rights.

“It’s been six years, and she understands that my family’s very much looking forward to this time, and that I will always be here should she need any trusted information or counsel,” Kosoglu said in an interview. “Even through this time period, she’s been an invaluable source of support and guidance to me to come to this decision.”

There’s a long-running joke in political circles about the use of “needing family time” as an excuse when it comes to the resignations of political figures and/or their aides, and it usually revolves around one or more of roughly three mindsets:

1) The person has become persona non grata either in their office due to poor job performance or scandal brought on themselves and has been told they might want to resign gracefully rather than risk public humiliation by getting fired/ousted.
2) The person “knows” something but would rather step down rather instead of potentially betraying his or her colleagues.
3) The person has simply had enough, is fed up with the game-playing, and has decided it’s time to go.

This is pure speculation on my part, but I suspect option 3 above is the primary reason for her departure.

When you consider the emphasis Democrats always put on the “historic nature” of “the first xyz to hold this office,” and then consider Kosoglu has been working with Harris longer than anyone else still on left on the team, it strikes me as odd someone like that would want to leave not even two years into such a “historic” vice presidency. That’s especially significant considering the rumors that are swirling about whether or not Joe Biden will run again in 2024 – which naturally would put Harris in a position run for president again.

People who have the degree of loyalty that this woman apparently has shown towards Harris since her time in the Senate don’t typically just up and need “family time” when there’s potentially only one more ladder to climb to get to the very top.

And when I say “loyalty” I don’t mean just loyalty in terms of time but also loyalty in terms of absolute devotion, which we saw here when she first joined the Biden-Harris campaign team two years ago:

Maybe Kosoglu finally figured out what a PITA Harris is reportedly known to be as a boss, and wanted to get out while the gettin’ was good. Maybe it was constantly having to run interference after all of Harris’ missteps. Maybe she didn’t want to be on board the sinking ship. I dunno, but I’m not buying the “family time” argument, and neither should anyone else.

Vice President Kamala Harris' New Speechwriter Presses 'Delete' Key, Steps Down

Quote:You might say the writer who wrote speeches as a speechwriter for Kamala Harris was written off.

In the course of her very brief tenure, Vice President Kamala Harris has distinguished herself in a variety of ways. None of those ways, for the record, are positive. She has become known for not addressing the many tasks assigned to her by President Biden. She tends to cackle instead of answering uncomfortable questions, and she is rather adept at driving away staff members – particularly in her communications team.

You can add to that list now, as it was announced that her speechwriter has now fled the VP’s office; Meghan Groob has stepped away from her job as Kamala’s wordsmith. Add Groob’s name to a growing list of people who have left the Vice President’s team in recent months. Since November, Harris has managed to drive off her communications director, then her Press Secretary Symone Sanders left in December for a gig at MSNBC. March saw the Deputy Press secretary depart, as well.

Friday also saw the announcement that Harris’ Service Aide Rohini Kosoglu was leaving her office. This takes the total number of departures from just her office to 17 individuals. Add in the high number of flights from Biden’s team, and you have nearly 30 departures from the administration, in under 18 months.

Groob herself is a replacement, as Kamala’s original speechwriter, Kate Childs Graham, ran off in February. This means she is leaving after just three months on the job, which is rather understandable, given one of Kamala’s other traits she has been known for; the Vice President has become a regular outlet for rather hilarious word salad speeches.

Harris has shown in her time on the job to struggle with extemporaneous speaking. When she is not properly prepared, or expected to speak off the cuff, Kamala can sound positively ridiculous, and even in her formal speeches, she has delivered some gems of fractured syntax and mangled commentary. Just a brief search of her recent malaprops finds some keepers.

Kamala’s vocabulary ventures are so well known that when the news came out of this latest resignation the hashtag #WriteASpeechForKamala was started, which sprouted impressions of her infamous interlocutions.

This all makes for great political comedy, but from the standpoint of a speechwriter, this reflects directly on their work. So renown now is Kamala for these quixotic quotes that when news broke of Groob stepping down, a few people expressed mocking surprise to learn that she even had a speechwriter. As a result, Groob is left in something of a lurch, vocationally.

Most D.C. professionals would favor having a White House work history on their resume, but in this instance, it might repel a future prospect. Groob would be forgiven if her CV ends up bearing a similar position in the administration; if she touts being the Social Media Editor for Major Biden (one of the family dogs), it would be both understandable… and a career enhancement.

Another One Bites the Dust as Team Kamala Continues to Implode

Quote:It must be quite something to work for Kamala Harris. It’s only been a little more than a year and a half and I don’t know if I’ve ever seen so many people fleeing for the exits from such an office. According to the Daily Mail, Biden’s White House had more than 30 senior staffers leave. Generally, you work hard to get there and you want to stick around. This means it must be pretty bad if you’re heading for the exits once you’ve reached this kind of position.

Two people announced earlier this month they were fleeing Kamala — Rohini Kosoglu, Harris’ domestic policy adviser, who had worked with Harris since her Senate days, and Meghan Groob, the director of speechwriting, who only held the job for about four months. I bet you didn’t even think she had a director of speechwriting, given what a jumble her speeches tend to be. Kosoglu came up with the lame excuse that she wanted to spend more time with family. Harris has also lost her chief of staff, deputy press secretary, and communications director, among the other people fleeing over the past year and a half.

Now, another senior aide is making for the exits. This latest person isn’t even bothering with an excuse for why he’s heading out, although he did make an obligatory comment about what a great experience it was.

Michael Collins — Harris’ director of public engagement and intergovernmental affairs — is going to be leaving next month. He’s been in the office for 16 months.

“It has been a difficult decision, but I’ve decided to leave this amazing experience in the middle of August and transition to the next stage of my life,” Collins said in the letter. “I’m so grateful to the Vice President for trusting me with this privilege and was honored to support the President’s and Vice President’s tireless, committed and historic work.”

Collins previously worked as the chief of staff to former Georgia Democratic Rep. John Lewis prior to the congressman’s death in 2020. The duo had worked together for 21 years. Collins said his work with Harris was an extension of his work with Lewis in an interview with ABC News last year.

“I’m trying to live out his legacy. It’s been a journey — it’s been a journey,” Collins said. “I’m fortunate enough to now be working for the vice president of the United States. Her leadership is something that I’m looking forward to just embarking on in the world. And this is an extension of the work that I did with him, and I look forward to that tremendously.”

“Tireless, committed, and historic work” must be their redefinition of running the country into the ground. It’s certainly “historic” with historic levels of inflation. But I’m thinking, in addition to the tough working environment, that some are bailing out because they don’t want to be around when the ship truly goes down. They don’t want to get tagged with more failure.

Kamala Harris Loses Another Aid as Exodus of Staffers Continues

Quote:Like rats deserting a sinking ship, the parade of staffers quitting the office of Vice-President Kamala Harris continues to grow.

The latest vice-presidential staff member to hand in his papers is a senior communications advisor. Herbie Ziskend announced that he is departing for a West Wing job as White House deputy communications director.

Townhall further reported:

Harris is teetering on the verge of having no staffers as many have walked away amid claims of turmoil and dysfunction.

Ziskend joined the Vice President at the beginning of President Joe Biden’s term, one of the few who have made it this long before finding a new role.

Kate Berner, who is currently in the role Ziskend is taking over, will be promoted to principal deputy communications director.

This comes as the Biden White House attempts to restructure its communications department after former press secretary Jen Psaki left to take on a role at MSNBC.

A few months ago when it seemed like every week a new Harris staffer was departing, then press secretary Jen Psaki claimed that the exodus was a “natural” and “very positive thing” to happen.

“Working in the first year of a White House is exciting and rewarding but it’s also grueling and exhausting,” Psaki said at the time.

Despite this, there have been several reports of the atmosphere being tense within Harris’ office, calling her a “bully.”

One report deemed her as a “common denominator,” claiming that she ran a “soul-destroying” management.

According to the former staffer, Harris often fails to read briefing materials and then lashes out at staff members when she’s the one not prepared.

“It’s clear that you’re not working with somebody who is willing to do the prep and the work… with Kamala you have to put up with a constant amount of soul-destroying criticism and also her own lack of confidence. So you’re constantly sort of propping up a bully, and it’s not really clear why,” the staffer claimed.

Working for Harris is apparently so tough that many ambitious people quit working for the woman slated to replace Joe Biden if the oldest president in history dies in office.

VP Kamala Harris’ Top Legal Counsel Leaving White House

Quote:Another member of Vice President Kamala Harris’ team is jumping ship into waters filled with previous staffers who called it quits.

Her chief legal adviser, Josh Hsu, announced his resignation effective at year-end, according to sources cited in an Axios report.

The Western Journal further reported:

The Democratic lawyer has worked for Harris since the Vice President was California’s U.S Senator, according to Axios.

He’s leaving the Biden-Harris administration to resume private practice as an attorney.

White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain hailed Hsu’s contributions to the administration in a statement provided to Axios.

“Josh is an incredible legal mind and this entire White House has greatly benefited from his talent,” Klain said.

Klain also lauded Hsu with regards to what many people consider Biden’s most tangible accomplishment to date.

“I’ve been through many judicial confirmations, and Josh’s perspective on the White House’s Supreme Court confirmation team ensuring the historic confirmation of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, was very impressive.”

Hsu played a role in the confirmation of Brown Jackson, a progressive judge who became President Joe Biden’s first Supreme Court Justice.

The Biden administration has at times struggled with retaining personnel, even at the highest levels.

The administration’s inability to retain black personnel at its highest levels has proved a course of concern for Biden staff, according to Politico.

Black voters were crucial in Biden’s 2020 victory in the Democratic primary and the presidential election.

Some Biden administration resignations have hit close to Harris.

Three high-level administration aides working under Harris previously quit, with anonymous sources attesting to an “abusive environment” in the Vice President’s office.

“It’s not a healthy environment and people often feel mistreated. It’s not a place where people feel supported but a place where people feel treated like s***,” a source familiar with Harris’ office told Politico in 2021.

Worth noting, Harris has often been criticized for her gaffes and the pressure of those criticisms could very well be playing a role in her alleged mistreatment of staffers.

High turnover among executive staff contrasts considerably with the Biden administration’s retention of Senate-appointed Cabinet officials.

None of Biden’s cabinet officials have left the administration since assuming office as of September, according to CNN.

This consistency in retaining cabinet officials differs from the standard approach under most American presidents, who tended to be more willing to replace or fire cabinet officials than Biden.
