Right. Because the 13 year old uses google maps for sure.

No, but if parents are letting underaged drivers drive, they are most likely sticking to back roads.

I guess. I mean you're letting your 13 year old drive you around in a car with a bad tire on it, but you have a filter that says just stick to the back roads? (which we earlier argued are less safe because of oilfield equipment). It seems so unsafe and random that making any rules of thumb about which roads 13 year old drivers in poorly maintained vehicles driving adults around might take is a stretch.

But it makes it less likely that the 13 year old will be caught by the cops, which is probably all that the adult was thinking about. Safety is obviously not a primary concern with any of the decisions that the adult makes in that situation.

As I say, I consult Google often on routes, but frequently take the one that is not their first choice. Reasons may be that one route is more scenic than the other, or that one route is less likely to become congested along the way.

Bingo. avoiding the cops is the number one consideration in illegal driving.

I got my license at 14, just a few months older, presumably, than this 13yo. But at 16, giving driving lessons to my unlicensed 15yo girlfriend, we drove out to a lake for her to practice. Very curvy, very dark, very narrow, no center stripe, but also no cops, so it was ideal.

Didn't Bob Seger write a song about that?

Night Moves?

No idea. I didn't see him there - it was very dark.

For driving lessons?

I sure took some chances there with my '57 Chevy. What a guy won't do for ... love?
