Kent MBB Players Disciplined by MAC

Looks like the video has been taken down, but I'm sure it will turn up somewhere. Truthfully, the MAC should not let Kent go to the NCAAs win or lose after something like this.
I have the video — it’s basically one guy (assuming it’s the guy that’s indefinitely suspended) throwing profanity and middle fingers at Akron players and naming them by name and number. Jacobs appears in the frame for a few seconds singing with him along with the other 2 suspended for the first half.
This isn’t Kent’s first brush with stuff like this as you’ll remember carry and others were not allowed to start against Toledo in February, but entered the game just a couple minutes in.
Kent is good, but they appear to have some serious character issues across the board based on what I’ve seen this year.

I wouldn't even call this a character issue as much as a common sense and judgment issue. College kids using profanity doesn't get me that worked up. If these guys had done a live performance for their teammates, then maybe it would be funny. (I haven't seen the video, so possibly not that funny?) The amazing thing is that someone thought it was a good idea to post the video on social media, where the world would end up seeing it. Given that young people have grown up with social media, I am continually amazed at how un-savvy they are about when not to use it. I know people who have lost jobs, child custody cases, and relationships over indiscrete social media posts.

RE: Kent MBB Players Disciplined by MAC
I found the video and its pretty childish and the best case scenario is that Kent just gave Akron all kinds of bulletin board material to use to get ready for the game. In the worst case there is gonna be a big brawl at the game and the MAC is gonna look like a bush league. It's one thing to call out your rival, but to call out specific players by name and number is not a character look any school should want their players showing.
But here's what I think the major point about this is. If I were to make a profanity-laced video, wearing my company's logo, in my place of work, disrespecting my competitors, and post it publicly, then I would expect to be fired on-the-spot the next day. Probably wouldn't even be let back in the building. So, to the athletes that say they should be treated like employees and get paid for their work, well that goes both ways too. Teach them about what the post-graduate world is like.

More speaking to character issues as there have been multiple incidents this year. Some on the court.

Your last point is an interesting one, but it's worth keeping in mind that certain things are different in the world of sports, for better or for worse. If my boss at work talked to me the way coaches talk to (or, more accurately, yell at) players, I would be looking for a new job immediately.

RE: Kent MBB Players Disciplined by MAC
Isn't KSU the same team that after they beat Akron earlier in year raced down to the student section of Akron's and had to be separated from the fans after taunting them? How would UT's fans feel if our team after a win raced down to the other teams fans, taunted them and had to be separated by security? And then had a video posted by at least one player prior to the CHAMPIONSHIP game of the tourney with taunting involved. All for players interacting and talking during the heat of a game (Moss), but carrying over to the fans and future games seems a little different. But, KSU does have the MAC coach and player of the year. Seems like KSU plays with a chip on and off the court.

I guess it comes down to what a program, conference, and fans are willing to accept.
I'm old, so I have a old school outlook. First, at the very beginning of the year you give the rules and the consequences if you break them to the team. In this case, I would throw them all off the team. I'm not from the taunting camp. Respect your opponents. There is no need for that stuff. Direct your energy to winning, not running your yap.
IMO, this should never happened in the first place because it should have been addressed long ago. If it was, then the penalty should fit what the rules were. If that means booting them, so be it.
The only thing better than winning, is winning with class.

So is this why they aren’t playing in any tournament?

the suspensions and public shaming sure seemed to throw them off their game. jacobs is probably their most important player overall. he wasn't able to really impact the championship game as Akron took control in the first half and set pace. carry was not sharp at all after looking great the previous 2 games.

Sitting on the bench probably threw them off their game a bit more than the shaming. One of them had scored 19 pts previous game and he was sitting. And credit to Akron, they were dogs. They have better perimeter defense. If Carry gets attitude (same Sears) he slips. Rollins always seems to self-correct.
Honestly, the Kent players don't seem to care, felt no shame. Most in their message board camps seem to be defending it was no big deal. They did it once. They did it twice. As long as they keep their roster spots, they will do it again.
