I think Dooley did a pretty good job at ECU. It's a tough job. But one of our ECU posters in particular will be very happy.

Unless he wanted to leave or we have someone better this really makes no sense at this point. I thought we looked better this year and was moving in the right direction, hope we are using our heads here.

I wish Coach Dooley nothing but the best and much success in the future. Questionable decision in my opinion, but I don't have access to all the information. We're facing another total reset!!

Jackson will be gone next year and will Newton stay? ECU had a .500 record this year, a high point but that’s after a five year tenure and a cupcake OOC schedule.

Caution should be exercised when firing coaches. There must be reasonable assurance the replacement will perform better.

hire some scrub and this will look alot like the ruff situation...

ecu just had its best team in the aac that was likely derailed by injury....with most of the roster expected to return, ecu could have had its best season ever (the bar is low) if dooley came back and made simple minor roster improvements

the roster could implode now and ecu could be in for another 4 year rebuild

Our best shooter didn’t play a game (BC transfer Tabbs) then Suggs went down for 6 games. Rumor was Newtons brother was a silent transfer commit and Dooley had a few others in the portal lined up. This team was turning the corner and now the whole thing could blow up. If we hired Greg Marshall I would be ok but on paper will probably be a worse coach coming in with a full rebuild.

Perhaps the administration felt like they needed to either make a move or offer an extension because Dooley only had 1 year left? Not sure. Kinda bummed. Slow progress, but we were moving in the right direction IMO.

My god the amount of ECU fans in meltdown over this decision is truly surprising. People who were all about the fire Dooley train a month ago are now all for giving him another 2 years because we beat Tulsa and USF in the final weeks of the season. This is why ECU can't have nice things.

tulsa and usf were in worse situations and both are likely keeping their job, usf's coach even got an extension

ecu was arguable on the verge of a break through...usf and tulsa will both be very bad next year and no light at the end of the tunnel

now a more detailed question, how many teams with ecu's history and identical situation would have kept dooley... 100% except ecu (okay maybe cincy would have fired him, but no one else)

the bar is higher at smu because they came of dominating the aac for almost 4 years.. they were the league's bread winner for awhile...jankovich has comparatively done worse to his expectations than Dooley with ecu expectations.. they held out for that break through unlike ecu...

ecu has never had a legitimately good team ever.. your cbi year was on a horrendous schedule, your 2 tournament bids were terrible teams who got autobids.. i cant imagine passing up the potential to maybe have your best ever year.. even if i had to fire id wait till mid april and see early transfer portal signs ... who is leaving and who is visiting
