Priority 1 and 1a front court scoring threat. This team would get a lot better and the guys who are staying if they had any offensive threat inside. I've not seen a Uc team this incapable of scoring inside. Much to easy to guard, and it really impacted their spacing which was critical.

It’s now just as important as high school recruiting. Not all of them were the huge transfers that the portal detractors decry, but that is the point. They fit and they have an impact on games that matter.

Virginia Tech gets 19 points against Duke from its 6’9”power forward from Wofford.

Arizona gets huge contributions from 2 guys who rode the pine last year at Gonzaga and Utah.

Johnny Juzang and Myles Johnson are starters for UCLA coming from UK and Rutgers.

3 of A&M’s starters transferred in this past offseason from Wyoming, Va Tech and Duke.

Boogie Ellis from Memphis put up 27 points for USC against a very good UCLA perimeter defense.

On and on and on…these were just games I watched.

Related to this, there are reports that Ben Howland has been termed. That means four SEC coaches (mizzou, GA, LSU and MSU) in addition to a number of other p5 openings (MD, K-State). Every coach that gets his papers is another opportunity for Coach Miller and his staff to recruit potential transfer talent to Cincy.
The ATHJETIC is reporting that Wes is a candidate for the LSU job. Wes isn't crazy is he?

So even with a year like this we have to be concerned about losing our basketball coach?

I doubt he leaves there.

i know we clown the ncaa for their lack of action, but there are enough red flags that i can't imagine any young up and comer in a decent situation jumping ship for that job. i can certainly see some unemployed retreads with nothing to lose lining up for it.

LSU is going to have to do what they just did with BK and give a stupid contract to get anyone with real talent.

Someone will take the money and long term deal.

Chris Mack is available, he would be a perfect fit.

I'm not sure if you guys caught this or not, but that post above was actually for the Florida job. The one I made before it (following up on somebody else's comment) was LSU. That's not to say he's a serious candidate at either spot since it's all just internet speculation so far from what I've seen.

RE: 2022 Portal Thread
I never thought the transfer of Tari Eason was going to be devastating as it was. Wow, his presence would have made a ton of difference. Coach Miller needs to find front line players with basketball skills. Our front line at this time is useless, especially against teams with talented big men. Our big men usually allowed guards to penetrate to the basket which hardly ever happened in UC's past history.

The rush to the portal is beginning in earnest. Not going to list anyone until I see UC has some interest but there are some very nice all conference smaller conference players now throwing their hats in the ring.

Jaelin Llewellyn and Kendal Coleman are the first two names to pop up that I'd be extremely happy to get...going to be some VERY tough competition out there.

I think our guards allowed them to get to the basket. Where the big guys blocked a lot of shots.

But they were offensive liabilities. Ado had alligator arms and 0 offensive game. Koval was soft. And Oguama was out of control.

The only big with any offensive acumen was Lahkin and he played less than any of those guys.

Guess we know the first priority position for Wes, shooting wing.

I wouldn't read that much into it. I suspect 2-3 more will enter the portal before it's all said and done. I don't think his position changes the priorities. I think it has to be:

1. Athletic rebounding big, with some offensive ability.
2. Wing Scorer with length
3. Creating guard / point guard.

Mason was beginning to find his shot but this team desperately needs a lengthy wing that can defend.

RE: 2022 Portal Thread
Probably the least surprising guy to have transfer. I think he will do well at a lower level. Here he was a tweener who wasn't big enough to play SF and didn't have the movement on defense to cover a lot of SG's. He definitely showed his willingness to work and improve with his massive improvement on defense during this season. But in the end he just lacks the athleticism to play at this level.

Based on guys we have officially been linked to (it's not a long list yet), the top priority is a SG.

RE: 2022 Portal Thread
I hate losing guys and Mason really embraced being here but he's not going to be a high level AAC player and definitely not B12. I'd imagine he can develop into one of those good MVC types. I wish him well but for what we need I'd think better will be available in the portal.
