RE: CUSA SEMIFINALS UAB Middle Tennessee Preview Special
MTSU has a very good, talented, athletic, and long team. They reminded me of some of the Memphis teams after DRose left - circa 2009-20012 or so. Roster full of 6'4" to 6'8" incredibly long, athletic, energetic, and interchangeable players. Their jerseys and school colors even made me think of Memphis. But unlike against Memphis, we actually came out on top at the end in a conference tournament. They will be good for at least the next 2 seasons.

Can anyone describe what happened for UAB to draw the 2 technical fouls in the 3rd OT? The TV broadcast did not show what happened. We only got to watch a replay of Walker steal and layup with goaltending. It looked liked MT player was upset UAB took a shot up 9.

I had no qualms with Jelly taking that shot. We had just come back from down SIX with under a minute left in the game. You take that shot, end the game, and leave no doubt. He wasn't doing it to showboat.

I hate the stupid, asinine, "unwritten rules of basketball," that you can't take a shot with such and such a lead with under such and such time left in the game. If you don't want the player to score, don't play defense and throw up the white flag. So stupid.

I don't know exactly what happened - I think we got the techs bc our players were celebrating and talking trash, but I am not sure. Again - I'm not mad about this, tensions were running high in an extremely close basketball game. MTSU was chirping back all game as well, and they did when we played them in February too.

I completely agree with you. My problem is an official calling 2 technical fouls so quickly. By the time TV finished showing replay, everything was over and no one looked upset other than UAB coaches. But I was surprised UAB got 2 technicals and MT got nothing. One last thought. The 1:3:1 zone on defense in third OT completely took Dishman out of the game. He was destroying UAB up to that point. Maybe we see that again on Saturday against LaTech and Lofton?

They're not ancient rules; the guys at the end of the bench were expected to try to score when they got in the game. That's why they got in the game. A blowout win at home meant the band started played Wipeout and the Golden Girls danced in front of the visiting bench while their players called my smoking hot wife things that won't get through this site's obscenity filter.

But if the refs are going to hand the trailing team four points because their inner children were wounded, then yes, you need to keep scoring in a three-overtime game.

I would still like to know what Rongie and Jelly said/did for both technicals to get called.

Rongie popped off to their bench after Jelly hit the layup, and was T'd up for it. Then when the official was explaining it to AK, with Jelly standing next to him, he apparently said something to the official, who called a tech on Jelly as well. Lovan was standing right next to him, and by the look on his face, couldn't believe he had gotten the T for what he said.

CUSA SEMIFINALS UAB Middle Tennessee Preview Special
We got to see what better officiating looks like in football during our bowl game. The better conferences have better officials because they are able to pay more per official per game. We will see the same “upgrade” in officiating in basketball when we leave for greener pastures soon. Of course we will always look through Blazer glasses but it’s always a sign of poor officiating when BOTH the winning team and the losing team are complaining. I read through MTSU’s game thread and they were complaining about the officials just as much as we were. Inconsistent calls/no calls can really frustrate players who are trying to adjust their game on how the game is being called.
