Two good wins for Rebel sports today!!! I'm ready to get my broom out for tomorrow's final game with the Bears.....

Holliman, Pettway Lead Ole Miss Past New York Tech 5-1
Freshman right-hander wins third straight decision.

OXFORD, Miss. - Freshman right-hander Mark Holliman allowed one run over seven innings and freshman right fielder Brian Pettway was 3-for-3 with an RBI as Ole Miss defeated New York Tech 5-1 Saturday afternoon at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.

The Rebels (8-5) won Friday night's series opener 3-1 and will aim for the series sweep when the two teams conclude their three-game set Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Holliman (3-0) held the Bears to six hits and walked one while striking out six during his seven innings of work.

Freshman left-hander Taylor Fowler worked a scoreless eighth inning in his first career appearance and senior Nick Bradshaw pitched a perfect ninth to close out the win.

Pettway gave the Rebels a 1-0 lead in the second with a sac fly to center to score Bryce Morrison, who drew a lead-off walk. The Rebels then added a run in third, fourth and fifth innings to build a 4-0 lead.

The Bears (0-4) finally broke through on Holliman in the seventh on a two-out, pinch-hit RBI single by Jeff Muchin to score Tim Smith.

Shortstop Mike Gaffney led New York Tech at the plate, going 3-for-4.

Both teams recorded eight hits on the afternoon.

Sophomore right-hander Chris Perez (0-1) was charged with the loss, allowing four runs on four hits and on walk in 4 1/3 innings.
