Hard lesson for WMU AD who screwed up royalty March 2020 (hint: never do anything big during the beginning of a 100-year pandemic 03-idea).

Wow, lot of folks in high places make big, big mistakes.

The AD who hired him retired last year.

It was a string of chaotic events: Hawkins was fired shortly before the lockdown. Once those hit, it caused a hiring freeze and budget crunch and we hired Bates by default. (Let’s be honest… takes an extraordinary event to hire a member of the staff you’re firing).

Hawkins is now a high school head coach in the Kzoo area with a 1-19 record.

Broncos were Division II level for most of the season, even losing to a Div II squad early on. Showed signs of life in the past few weeks, but too little, too late, I suppose.

Only upside is we have (had?) a solid recruiting class coming in. Hope we hang onto them.

Bronc, Bates was indeed a chaotic hire. That said Beauregard was smart while having one foot out the door. Absolutely NO coach accepts a two-year contract at half price except Bates. Bates also could have scoured the transfer portal like Barbee and have five of his six high scorers graduating this season yet win a few more games. Clayton was a placeholder for sure but a very good one in my estimation.

RE: monday musings
It's not Monday but I'm musing how people are treating 'super freshmen' as 'freshmen.'

Some schools, conferences treat 2020/21 true freshmen at redshirt freshmen.

Should players like Noah, Colin, etc. be eligible for the FROSH awards even though they could have played a FULL season?

Some schools, conferences treat 'super seniors' as 'graduate' players.
