The worst case scenario, since we have USF is our bracket, is to lose to them in the first game. But that means they have to beat UCF first. And if USF beats UCF and us, they are likely to move out of Q4 range.

That means we would have a net of around 40-45, 4 Q1 wins, no Q4 losses, and excellent SOS metrics and 10 losses, and only lost 2 games in the past 6 weeks or so.

I do not have that kind of faith in the selection committee to not do something weird...

You and me both.

Yep. I don’t trust the committee. The way we’re playing now this should be a mute point. Just take care of business.

A mute point. Got it.

Our new mantra:

Moot that point
Whoop that trick
Post that shi!

Try it everybody! It’s nouveau classy and rolls off the tongue nicely

That matters less than anything to the committee.

If we were to lose to SMU again that would be hard for the committee to over look. 0-3 is not good.

Yes, because it's a 3 game season and we would be winless. 03-lmfao01-wingedeagle

What is more plausible….

The committee doing a deep dive on every team and knowing all the ins and outs of each team’s season

Or

Looking at the standings and seeing we finished behind SMU in the regular season, SMU sweeping us in that same season, and then losing to them in the conf tournament?

Hopefully it is all moot and our Tigers take care of business.

I don't think that matters nearly as much as sweeping Houston and not losing in our first game of the conference tournament.

Agreed but I would still feel better if we beat SMU.

I'm not worried about UCF/USF at all, really. I also feel confident about SMU on a neutral court as long as the officiating is fair and consistent. Once we make it that far, I feel certain we can take Houston a third time.

Well above 50%? We have a NET of 35. Murray State won their conference tournament. 03-lmfao

Ya, I am aware which was exactly my point... We need teams like Murry State to win their conference so they remain one bid leagues...

And per usual, take half a statement out of context to prove a nonexistent point... I am assuming the laughing emoji was directed at your self.

I do not have that kind of faith in the selection committee to not do something weird...

The difference is that if they do something weird, its to another team. Our resume this year is very solid. This isnt like past years where we had 0 or 1 Q1 win.

Last year the first 4 out were Louisville, Colorado St, St Louis, and Ole Miss.
Their respective nets were 58, 63, 52, and 54. (or thereabouts) SO the last 4 who missed last year would have a net about 10 spots worse than where we would be by losing this first game.

Louisville only had 1 Q1 win, but their SOS metrics were good and only 7 losses. But their net was bad at around 58. (again, about 18 or so spots below where we would be with a loss against USF this week.)

Ole Miss had 3 Q1 wins, but had 12 losses and a non-conf SOS of 200+, which is horrible.

St Louis only had 7 losses, but only 14 wins. Only 2 Q1 wins, and a bad non-conf SOS of 251.

Colorado St had 8 losses, a fantastic non-conf sos, but only 2 Q1 wins. And their net was about 23 spots lower than where ours would be.

So all 4 of these teams had multiple metrics that are worse than ours.
1. All 4 had worse NET rankings, some by more than 20 spots.
2. All had fewer Q1 wins.
3. 3 of 4 had worse (putrid) non-conf sos'.

You and I agree that we deserve to be in either way. I just do not trust the "eye test" of the committee come selection Sunday if we lose our first game... But I think that is not happening anyways and so long as we win that game I think we are 100% in regardless of the outcome against SMU.

I feel that Palm has been consistently undervaluing Memphis for most of his brackets, relative to SMU. Anyone know what his accuracy rate is anyway?

I think that he is undervaluing us
As well. And where lunardi has us is a huge difference. Just pointing out that I didn’t make up the us vs smu narrative. It is very much out there.

After we started dropping games, those bozos turned on Penny so fast it was incredible. They kept poking and poking, saying the most insulting things about not only Penny, but the program, and the players. Now that Penny has demonstrated that the team can compete with the best of them, going 10-1 to close the season, everybody wants to be on his jock again, including so called "fans." Is what it is.

Out of 135 bracket analysts, Palm ranks at 100 and Lunardi is at 55 for accuracy. They're just throwing darts like the rest of us.

Well the number one ranked bracketologist on that list has Memphis 2nd to last team in and smu 2nd team out. That doesn’t make me feel great about it not being an elimination game lol

In 2013, Jerry Palm had us as a #9 seed when we were 23-3 and ranked #19 in the country. After the conference tournament he had us as a #8 seed, when we were ranked #18 in the country.

F***K Jerry Palm

He is trash.

Ok. I literally just posted 2 links.

And Jason and John said it today. I’ll post that link too if you are interested.
