My wife has a padded chair back seat and we got both of our season tickets for $227 because we asked for paper tickets. Parking is free because we are handicapped. We used to get a discount every game concessions merch but last year it was every other game. We used to the ticket event on February signing day with snacks and meet the coaches. That stopped with early December signings. I think they are planning a season ticket event in July.

That's a heck of a deal for padded seat back on the 50-yd line. MAC football ticket prices are a great deal.

NIU usually charges for general parking (parking near the stadium involves being a doner) but last year they didn't charge for parking due to not wanting to exchange cash/COVID considerations. Curious to see if NIU starts charging for parking again this season? If they don't, they are leaving a lot of money on the table.

A lot? ehh, its not exactly crowded. They will be leaving some money out there, somewhat more than what you'd find in a couch but not exactly a lot.

I only went to the Wyoming game last year and the general (non-donor) parking lots out by the Convocation Center had a bunch of vehicles, including RVs. RVs are charged $30 for general parking and regular vehicles $15. Let's say 500 vehicles parked out there, that was a loss of $7,500 in parking fees (not including the higher RV fees). For a program with the lowest budget in the MAC and also has to play at least 2-3 payday games every season, every dollar matters.

I think you just proved the point that it's not a lot.

There's 3,000 parking spots out there. I was being ultra conservative by using 500 vehiclesa, as an example.

3,000 vehicles would be equal to $45k (not including the higher RV fees).

I understand you think in the grand scheme of P5 schools who are receiving $40-$50 million just for TV rights that is small potatoes but for a school with a $21 million budget every dollar matters.

There can be 3,000 or 30,000 spots, when there less than a 1000 cars because there is barely 5000 people in the stands you're talking about couch cushion change in terms of revenue. And every RV reduces the income sine that is generally a group which means even less cars. Lots of attendees also don't pay to park at all. There are a places to park for free well within walking distance, many closer than the convo lot.

What free parking are you talking about that is within walking distance? The entire campus requires a parking pass if you are not paying for parking. Same with those Lincolnshire Apartments to the south of the stadium. I assume you must be talking about parking at restaurants along Lincoln Hwy, which technically they could tow your vehicle since it is private property.

I park in the field house lot for free every game. Permits are only required weekdays and until 5pm.

Is that specific to that lot? I wonder if the lots near Neptune and Stevenson are the same.

The donor lot I park in has a lot of people each game parking in the lot without the required parking pass. Pretty annoying.

RE: Football Season Tickets
I found out some of what is going on at the HAF. Steven Donohue is indeed no longer at NIU. Some of his duties are falling into the lap of Amy Schmidt, an Administrative Aide there. They are trying to hire a replacement for Steven ASAP. But, of course there will be a big learning curve. They are really pushing for online ticket renewals. I am waiting for my HAF packet so I can easily renew my HAF benefits contributions and season tickets in a way that's best for me. They will send those out as soon as they are able, but I think that office is hurting a bit, so it could be a while.

Plus with the delay to get to new hires paperwork processed, it could be a very long time.

Got a couple calls last week but didn't have time to answer them. No VMs. Had a few minutes today so I picked up the phone and called the guy I always deal with, Rob Doerger. Great kid. Left Rob a message, he called me back within a couple hours. He renewed my tickets, parking pass, donation, etc., with the credit card we have on file at NIU. Took five minutes. We gabbed for another five. His number, in case anyone wants to call him, receive exceptional service, and renew your tickets without waiting for snail mail, is 815-753-7225.

Football Season Tickets
I’m waiting for the HAF packet to arrive via good old (if unreliable) USPS. When I get that, I complete all the forms and also ensure that I am getting my same parking spaces, and also indicate my benefits and sports specific donations. Plus, I need to ensure that my seats are correct. (There have been problems with that in the past.) Then I write 2 checks - one for HAF stuff and one for season ticket renewal. How I do it works for me. If they want my money faster, they need to send the HAF packets faster.

Across from bakers square, behind Illini tire, by the childcare building. No parking restrictions on weekends or after 5 (maybe 7PM). Just cross annie glidden and then its the field to the stadium. It was pay to park there, $5, years ago then they realized they were probably paying more to staff the lot than they got in revenue. I haven't paid to park there in well over 6 years.

RE: Football Season Tickets
I have my own assigned space in the West lawn lot. It's just a few feet from the stadium. However, I live in the lap of luxury and would appreciate assistance getting to the stadium entrance. If STF was any kind of decent person catering to donors, he would immediately meet me in his golf cart when I park and then drive me to the stadium entrance. But, no! STF drives like a bat out of hell in the opposite direction while I need to walk the few feet to the stadium on my own. Is this the way to treat your ordinary (non-mega) donors? 03-hissyfit

Thanks for the info. Is there much tailgating going on in those areas or are people just parking and going directly to the stadium?

Athletics made a change regarding the premium seat fees. These fees (such as those charged for chairback and benchback seats) no longer count towards benefit contributions. They are using the rationale that other schools are doing it because these fees have not been tax deductible for several years. However, we are not using these fees for a tax deduction, but they used to count as a donation for figuring benefits. No more! These fees are now called Per Seat License (PSL) just like the big boys call them.

Yep.

Does anyone remember what the premium seat fee was in previous years?

The chairback fees are $150 per seat. So, for me, that means $600 will no longer go towards my contribution for benefits. Makes no difference to me because I'm certainly not going to send them another $600 for something that would go towards my benefits.

Yep. I have two chairbacks in row 18 and this change has eliminated my access to the permit parking lots, unless you make yet another contribution. To retain parking in my previously assigned permit lot, I would now have to pay yet another $300…..not going to happen. This is really annoying to me. This may very well be my final year, after over 40 years of having season tickets.
