WBB Senior Day vs Delaware
This afternoon at 4 the WBB wraps up their season against Delaware. It's been a tough season, it's been a disappointing season, but it's time to thank these women who have given at least four years of their lives to play for JMU. Before the game, Jaylin, Maddie, Brianna, Morgan and Casey will be honored so get to the game early!!

I think the jury is still out on whether Jaylin, Maddie and/or Brianna will come back for a fifth year. I've heard some different things from their families, so let's just have fun and thank them for their efforts.

This will be a tough game to say the least. I am not expecting a win, so hopefully they can prove me wrong!!

RE: WBB Senior Day vs Delaware
I will be there in all my purple finery. I am going for surgery on Wednesday to (hopefully) correct an esophageal stricture/blockage so I am looking forward to a good outing for this one. I kind of hope Jaylin, at least, will come back next year. She has been such a leader for this team, and it's something the new kids will need. It will be bittersweet to say the least saying goodbye to the seniors, since this season has been kind of a washout and the last one was basically nonexistent.

Best wishes and healing prayers (if that is okay) for a successful surgery. We need you back to cheer on the softball season!!

I agree with Jaylin - been trying to convince her mother to encourage her to return!!

RE: WBB Senior Day vs Delaware
Well, that was the game I've been waiting to see them play all season! They came out with a take-no-prisoners attitude and kept it up for the whole game. Not gonna let the seniors go out on a losing note. Coach did a masterful job of substitution, shuffling the 9 healthy bodies he had to work with in and out and even those who got into foul trouble didn't foul out, despite the refs' best efforts. And those refs, geez. In the first half, once Delaware got behind, they seemed to want to do everything to help them catch up! In the third quarter they got a little better because they saw it was a losing cause, but I'm not sure any of the 3 of them ever read a rule book.

It would be hard to single out any one player because everyone contributed so much and played so hard, but Jaylin Carodine really gets my vote for player of the game. She hit the floor so hard so many times and just kept getting up and going again. I was really scared for her a couple of times. She will need the ice tub for sure. And Jamia snapped out of that sophomore slump when she needed to. But everyone did their bit, no matter how many or how few minutes they played. Bye-bye Blue Chickens, and bye-bye CAA. Next year in the Sun Belt!

Carodine will return next season, according to a knowledgeable source today.

Great win and a good way to finish a very disappointing season. Hopefully something to build on for next year.

It's a shame the team yesterday wasn't playing all season long! Nice game.

RE: WBB Senior Day vs Delaware
Maddie Green's family sat behind us yesterday. Lovely people (and all the women are beautiful)! As we were leaving, my husband turned around and thanked them for "sharing Maddie with us" for the past 4 years. They thanked us for being "super fans" and then her mother said, "The girls will be back." I don't know whether she meant that the seniors would (all) be returning next year, at least the three active ones, or whether she meant that the team would have a resurgence. Something to think about, anyway.

RE: WBB Senior Day vs Delaware
It was so much fun to see the team play like most of us knew they could play all year. One of the most telling stats was the number of assists they had yesterday - I think 11 ranks right up with the most they have had in any game this year.

The crowd was amazing - made me remember the good days in the Convo.

Two petty and snarky things....apparently the Delaware bench was not happy with the time Kiki takes to shoot her free throws so they started counting down any time a JMU player was shooting a free throw. Really? Let's see how childish we can be.....but then a couple of our players started doing the same thing. I would hope our team is better than that, but apparently none of the coaches cared.

JMU had scored 78 points and had the ball with about 20 seconds left. The crowd was shouting for one more point for nuggets...but Coach O pulled them back and would not allow them to take another shot. I get that there was no question as to the game result, but I would have hoped to thank the fans who have been supporting the team all year that he would have allowed them to try to get that one point. Over the years he seems to be less and less concerned about the fans and more and about money. It's disappointing to see.

In his post game radio interview, Coach O said he "anticipates changes" in the off-season. It will be interesting to see how that plays out over the summer.

How many days until pre-season?????? :-)

"Anticipates changes"? As in transfers? What exactly does that mean?

Perhaps he meant an assistant coaching change I have been hoping for. She's been on maternity leave and the girls have done fine without her.

Saw in the Washington Post this morning that Delaware coach Natasha Adair is leaving Delaware and is now the WBB head coach at Arizona State. Interesting. Have also thought that Charlotte Smith at Elon might get poached by someone but that has not happened yet, if it will at all.

That's a good hire for ASU, I think. She did things at Delaware that nobody other than Delle Donne ever did. Some of us on another board were wondering if Jasmine Dickey had any eligibility left (she was injured one year and might have a Covid year left) and might follow her at the end of the school year.

Thought I heard somewhere that J Dickey wanted to go into the WNBA draft this year. Could be wrong but I thought I heard that recently. If she does have a covid year of eligibility left could see here going to ASU with Coach Adair.

That might have been before Adair got the ASU job though. And I think she probably has a Covid year if she wants to take it.

Sarah Jenkins is the new Delaware coach. Apparently she was an AC there 2017-22. Played at Maryland for a year and then Georgetown. Does anyone remember her?

Can't say I do. Doesn't matter though, as she won't be our conference mate next year. Maybe we'll see her in the OOC schedule at some point, but I honestly hope not.
