CUSA Basketball - Week 10 of Conference Play

https://conferenceusa.com/news/2001/2/16...eaker.aspx

That’s from 2001 before the seeding was done using W1, E1, W2, E2.

https://cusareport.com/2018/02/28/basket...rocedures/

This was 2018 rules, but the wording is murky

1. Between TWO teams
a. Head to head
b. If still tied, compare records versus teams with highest winning percentage in Conference play and descending order until tie is broken. When arriving at a set of tied teams (i.e., winning percentage) while comparing records, use each team's record versus the COLLECTIVE tied teams as a group (prior to that group’s own tiebreaking process).
c. If tie remains, seeding will be based upon the most recent RPI standings.

Maybe I’m a bit buzzed but I can’t figure out what the bold part means

Let me see if I can explain the bolded clause using a concrete example:

Rice is chasing UTEP for the 4-seed. (Of course we have to win a game at their place, small little detail…)

But if we do win out this week and UNT keeps their road streak going at UTEP on Saturday, then Rice and UTEP are tied. Head to head would be split. Division record (if in fact it is a tiebreaker here) would also be tied.

Rice then has the advantage due to its earlier win over #2 UAB. UTEP however did beat #3 LaTech.

If LaTech can beat UAB this week, then it’s possible for LaTech to catch UAB for the T2 seed.

The point of the clause above is that in this scenario, Rice’s win over UAB carries the same weight as UTEP’s win over LaTech. Regardless of how the T2 tie breaker gets settled.

In that scenario all that matters would be that both Rice and UTEP would be 1-3 against the group of two teams tied at #2.

(Hopefully in that case it would eventually go to record vs the East seeds, where Rice is 1-0 vs the East’s top seed)

Also it means that Rice should be cheering for UAB to win this week, while UAB should be cheering for UTEP against Rice, in case UAB needs that tiered tiebreaker help.

Nice breakdown but none of that is going to be needed. It gets settled tonight.

Hopefully that one wont be a battle cry for Marshall.

UNT is about to tip it off at UTSA. The line on the game is 13.5.

Good game Tops! You'll get the sweep Saturday. I am just so sick of this pathetic excuse for a basketball team. Out-coached, out-thought, out-muscled, out-played, out-efforted and out-everything.

The attitude of this team sucks and it shows.

RE: CUSA Basketball - Week 10 of Conference Play
UNT 59
UTSA 48

Final

UTSA went hack a Shaq to finish the game (UNT isn't a good free throw shooting team), and took a gimme layup to end the game. UNT misses the spread and will drop in the NET tomorrow. Lazy play from the Mean Green tonight.

UTEP squeaked by Rice 70-67. Too exciting for my age.

Good game Rice but I don't see either team making it thru the conference tournament. Might be a good year for both to get into one of the lesser basketball tourneys.

I don’t know if your older or younger than me but it was pretty dang exciting game. Streaky, too
Rice 5-0
UTEP 32-16 run (including a 9-0 and an 8-1)
Rice 35-13 (19-2 run)
UTEP 22-11 to finish (9-2 run)

Both teams held double digit leads before coming down to a tie game at 4:29 and again at 0:58

CUSA Basketball - Week 10 of Conference Play
Carl Pierre was 6/11 from 3Pt line, and had a shot to tie in the last 10 seconds (as did two other Owls).

Carl’s 4/4 behind the arc at the start of the 2H was a highlight…

Pierre's uncanny shooting has the CBSSN announcers jumping out of their seats with excitement.

Congrats, Carl, on setting a new Rice record for made-3s in a season.

We currently have one of the youngest teams in the nation. 1 senior no juniors. Start 3 freshmen. Our second best player tore her ACL mid season. She had won freshman of the week I believe 5-6 times. Plus our 6'5" center didn't return for her vivid year. Stayed in Egypt to play pro ball. Ask MTSU if we've given up womens bb.

Thanks, but I just don't see it happening. Winning isn't enough. There just isn't enough respect out there for C-USA conference schedules. UNT is winning, but the NET only cares if we out-preform the spread. UNT won at UTSA by 11 Thursday night, but the spread was 13.5, so the Mean Green dropped two spot in the NET. Now, UNT is sitting at #39. Had UNT won that game by 20, we might have moved up at spot or two.

If we can beat UTEP by enough points today, UNT might get a few more votes in the polls, but not enough to be ranked.

By the way, today's spread is 5 points. If UNT doesn't beat UTEP by more than 5, the Mean Green will fall into the 40's in the NET.
