Leaving a ton of points at the line and around the rim. A lot of things that usually spell defeat. You can get away with mistakes when you play defense like we do though. Still need to clean some of that up though.

Also, if Jacobs doesn't win defensive player of the year that award officially means nothing to me. I don't think I've seen a guard that defends better and harder than him. Tonight he had 5 steals and 2 blocks in the first half. Both blocks we recovered. That's 7 possessions he personally ended in one half. Plus he's our leading rebounder as a 6'4" guard. He's every bit as important to this team as Carry, IMO.

Jacobs was intense. I was hoping Carry would have another huge game, but I guess he's human. We'll see how we fair with the 3 games/3 days. Looks like we run a gauntlet after Thursday.

I know I'll get stones thrown my way, but I feel like this would have been a good night for a hype guy. It almost seems like we could use a mic guy more than a hype guy. Whoever started the Let's Go Kent cheer late in the game was spot on. The crowd just needs a push.

I used to think DShaw was the defensive icon for Kent but agree Jacobs may even have Shaw beat. Both seemed to score through sheer tenacity more than skill, but defense and rebounding for both was/is stellar.

I think they're definitely one and two. Shot blocking is what gives Jacobs the edge. Shaw never really blocked shots.

The defense that Kent State played in the first half last night was awesome. They were active and gave great effort. That sort of defensive effort against an "unpredictable" opponent like Miami will get KSU to Friday night.

Pair that with cleaning up the inability to finish at the rim and Friday night could be very very winnable as well.

Since they have already beaten every team in the MAC at least once, they are all "winnable". "Loseable", too. It's rather difficult to "clean up" much at this point in the season. The coaches just have to emphasize the right things before each game.

Well “there it is” then. No room for improvement and no reason to be cautiously optimistic.
