Darkest moment of rice athlete since 2003
I joined Rice as a graduate student of RQI, 2003.

The campus was so beautiful, as the blue flag of "NCAA Baseball championship" all over the inner loop. We almost went Omaha every year until 2008, when i left Rice campus. OK, Frankly, I am remembering that because there was a big party for baseball team, free pizza and other great food are everywhere.02-13-banana02-13-banana02-13-banana

I have never been so pessimistic, but probably Rice base baseball will never be consistently top 10 again in the future. The economic and school management attitude decide that.

Great to see you post here again. The college baseball landscape has changed a bit since 2008, but I'm optimistic that Rice will be competitive again. Read some of Walt G's posts to get a sense of why optimism is warranted.

Jun, as you are a loyal and long time Rice Owl fan, I nominate you as chairman of an ad hoc committee whose task is to figure out ways to get our Asian kids to get more wrapped up in Rice athletics spectator sports. They are great Rice students; they can darn well be great Rice sports fans, I know it. Perhaps a sleeping giant…

All right, unfortunately, most Asia students just don't watch these sports, since we need make 'A' for all the subjects.

I am the wrong kind, i watch football because i went to Mississippi state. I watch baseball because i went to Rice.

I thank you, Jun, for not suggesting "more cow bell" for the Rice celebration sound effect being discussed on another thread:

I'd trade with him, but I don't need the handle "Walt Greenberg".

But yes, I agree we need more fans - and posters - like
Walt.

Well, there you go. Problem solved. When the Owls score, The MOB cranks up The Reaper and the fans get their cowbell, clapperless please, and drumstick out and go to town. Everybody needs more cowbell.

By economic, if you mean NIL money, (which is going to be easy and plentiful for big state programs Texas; almost all of the SEC), then yes, I agree. Unless baseball ups the ante on their draft money, I think you are going to see a lot of the guys that maybe went pro in the 3rd or 4th round now go to Texas, and pitch for $100,000.00 a year.

I agree, not only in the men's programs, but likely to affect WBB, WVV recruiting. I don't how we can compete in football with even SMU or TCU, much less UT or A&M.
