A firm has submitted recommendations from a study done back in November, but that has not been shared.

The problem with renovating an old stadium is its still an old stadium but with some new features. Recurring maintenance will still reflect an old stadium. An a renovation that would provide any significant improvements would be a nice down-payment on a new stadium with better accommodations & lower maintenance costs. Just the sort of thing Nashville is realizing now even though their current stadium is much newer than the LB. So the university will get saddled with the increasing upkeep expenditures to keep the LB viable. Probably not a good bargain for the university or for the city if either attempt to maintain the LB long term.

sez every stadium in the sec

SEC has money to burn. SEC stadiums are On Campus providing few other alternatives. TX A&M renovated to the tune of $300M+. Not much of a comparison or equivalent to our circumstances.

i have been to 4 sec stadiums in the last few years
and they are all **** holes

(ut, missouri, ole miss, miss state)

i did not sit in the sky boxes or press boxes (that is where they invest)

Ok? Point is these stadiums are ON CAMPUS, where the school is located. The school isn't moving, so they renovate/update (& they have the $$). UGA, UTK, OM, AL, AR, MSU, TXAM, etc have all done this, some more recent than others. And if you have invested in the program you see where the renovation $$ have been spent - on the areas used by those who invest in the program. Even the LB has been "updated" (I use that term generously & relatively) by adding chairbacks for those who spend more on the program. Sure at OM, UTK, UGA you can still find the troughs in the old men's rooms, antiquated concessions but not in the areas where the big investers. sit. But again that is not our issue. We play in a rented, off-campus stadium that the owner (city of Memphis) has no motivation or $$ to renovate.

I unintentionally offered a difficult to understand quote in the CA yesterday. Here it is with the critical word:
“It’s not JUST about a new stadium or a dramatically improved LB. It’s about sustainable investment in our athletic programs to join a power conference.”
Go Tigers.

Hmmm... Still does nothing to add any clarity regarding whether they want a new stadium or plan to put lipstick on a pig. So it goes.

03-lmfao

The city was planning to upgrade Crump when the decision was made to build the new stadium. Guess what the city's plan is?

The University of Memphis is the only football team needing a stadium & the university has a location that isn't going to move. If there is a need for a new stadium, it is a university need not a city or regional need. Time for a cash-strapped city to quit pouring $$ in an old stadium in order to enable a private entity to host a minor bowl game & another game that is likely going to Birmingham. And, at the same time, it's time for the university fans to invest in its their FB program if it they wants that program to grow.

Good statement mostly, but FYP.

An on campus stadium is something the school can afford if it is getting a $50M check every year from the conference.

The Heery study commissioned by the school more than a decade ago concluded the University could have afforded an on campus. The reason the school opposed it then; and seems reticent to again act in its own best interests is political, not financial.

Not a lot of schools get an annual $50M check from their conference. If there were no rental options, are you saying we’d have to ditch athletics all together? Is that your perception of the university? Should we call in hospice?

If you keep doing the same thing you have always done, you can expect to get the same results.

In our case, renovating the Liberty Bowl is very unlikely to help us move up in the world of college athletics.

That is simply the way it is. It isn't complicated.

Good statement mostly, but FYP.

But we have a problem to overcome - we have a school admin that by its actions has historically done nothing to even promote the idea of an OCS. And has discouraged & cutoff any attempts by fans to promote an OCS. Apparently it's politics because our school is clearly jeopardizing its latest & probably last potential opportunity to move up in conference affiliation by doing nothing about facilities investment while both SMU & USF have been aggressive to announce major new facilities.

You are confusing current administrations from those prior. This administration, while not always public about it, has a very real plan in place. They have taken huge strides towards that goal. Everyone that needs to know does know what the plans are for expansion of the Tiger Program.

Really? And they keep it secret....hmm. Problem is they have never made a public statement related to a FB stadium much less a stadium on campus. And if there was ever a time to go public now is the time (& maybe it would have been a good idea to tell the B-12) & they haven't told the B-12 anything that made a difference.

After the BIG12 told Boise to INCREASE the seats at their stadium ------I can just hear the excitement of the BIG12 when we tell them that we are going to DECREASE the amount of fans that can attend our games

Hopefully the school is not shortsighted enough to build an OCS-----especially one that would decrease our seats by 1/3---or any amount

Where is the evidence that the B12 really told Boise to increase their stadium? Sic-em365 has gotten things wrong before. Just like saying that DHL is investing in LB stadium and that Memphis was offered in round 1 but rejected.

Decreasing capacity & moving onto campus will increase revenue & gameday experience; and both are more important to the Big 12 than perceived stadium capacity.

Baylor reduced their capacity when they moved into their new stadium. Too much capacity is worse than not enough.

I agree. I can’t believe they put the new Scheidt Family Music Center on campus. And the dorms they are building. Idiots. Those should be in Lakeland.

RE: Liberty Bowl Stadium
If we build a mickey mouse 30/40k seat stadium ----then we will get 30/40 attend

If we stay at MEMPHIS MEMORIAL then we will still get the 30/40k that the new mickey mouse OCS tiny stadium would have held---+plus on occasion we will get 45/50/55+ like we always do---which is better ? ALWAYS ONLY getting 30/40---or ALWAYS getting the same 30/40 but on occasion getting many more .

For the people that state that build a 30/40k seat now ---then we can expand ----how shortsighted . If/WHEN we are actually #2 on everybody's list -and we get our promotion -then we actually need the extra seats NOW-----we spend $$$MILLIONS$$$ NOW building the TINY STADIUM ---then 10 years down the road when we decide to ADD SEATS --how much higher will be building costs then ---when we could have just made it big enough to begin with .......why build now with the goal of adding more seats later ----just build the thing big enough to begin with........better still we already have a stadium big enough

The TIGER fans that attend 1-3 games per year that can't afford season tickets will be alienated/kicked to the curb--you talk about apathy--we tell them by building a TINY stadium that they mean nothing to the program ---the new slogan "screw you average TIGER fan --we don't want you showing up to games now--but in a few years we will expand the TINY stadium we built --and then invite you back/let you start attending games again--until then screw you and give your $$$ and fandom somewhere else"..

If you are going to build an OCS --then build it big enough to start with 55k+ --or just keep playing where we call home now

Make it EASIER for people to attend our games --not HARDER
