Laird Veatch, the athletics director and vice president, will share plans on progress with the Liberty Bowl — home of Tigers football, owned by the city — "in the coming months," Rudd said.

“It's not about building a new stadium, or dramatically renovating the existing facility at the Liberty Bowl," Rudd said. "It's about the university demonstrating sustained investment in our athletic programs in an effort to join a Power Five conference."

Sounds like Lard said nothing.

I expect an apology from him about it soon

Yes, I'm sure he is cowering in his office, contemplating the proper composition of an apology to you....

I think he's point out that would be "Out East", not West.

Oops! Sorry about that. Somewhere closer to the Blue Oval City. To me that likely means I40, but there may be other things coming as well.

Yes!! Build a new stadium near Lakeland/ Arlington. No more long drives into the hood for football games. Matter of fact, dome it like Syracuse and play basketball in it too. No more 30 min drives ea way downtown for basketball games, no more winos and bums ax-ing for money either.

Get it done Tigers!

I think the fact that the Tigers are actually a college team (a real state college with a campus, students, teachers, dorms and facilities) gets lost on some of you guys. Arlington?

You buy it from the city for $1, then they sue you to make it fully ADA compliant.

Folks are silly and don't want to face reality. Dr. Rudd just laid it out there. But oh well, keep being Dreamers, Doers and Thinkers and that new and paid for campus stadium will magically appear.

Not the divesting part, the sueing part. I'm well acquainted with the divesting part.

Who would have ever thought that someone could have 10X less charisma and charm, and be 10X more of a dullard than Bowen?

Franky why is there even a discussion of a new stadium related to the city or region at all? There is no demand or need for a new municipal stadium - none. The University of Memphis is the only football team needing a stadium & the university has a location that isn't going to move. If there is a need for a new stadium, it is a university need not a city or regional need. Time for a cash-strapped city to quit pouring $$ in an old stadium in order to enable a private entity to host a minor bowl game & another game that is likely going to Birmingham. And, at the same time, it's time for the university to invest in its FB program if it wants that program to grow.

This is typical of people under 50 years old, and those college-educated and steeped in corporate-speak.

It's not about building a new stadium, or dramatically renovating the existing facility at the Liberty Bowl," Rudd said."It's about the university demonstrating sustained investment in our athletic programs in an effort to join a Power Five conference."

Okay... so what is "IT" about? But first.... define "IT".

But I like Rudd. I ain't gonna bust on him too bad. But I hate that crap. Speak plainly, people. Let your yes be yes, and your no be no.

But we get what he's saying. "It" is impressing Power5 leagues. The Power5 leagues don't necessarily care about whether we build a new stadium or renovate the Liberty Bowl particularly. What they want to see is a commitment to investing in our athletics.

If they think that commitment is a poor decision, then it could be worse than doing nothing at all. You don't get in and you spent a lot of money.
