Yes, the women do deserve their own game thread.

Here’s some highlights from “another thread” then I’ll give a few of my thoughts at the end.

More WBB (from the MBB thread)

Jackson also with 6 boards and 2 steals (vs. only 3 TOs) while playing the full 40 minutes. Arguably the best game of her career so far. Maya, who also played the full 40 only took 2 shots the entire 2nd half. Instead, Austin took over in the paint. Really nice home win against a quality UAB team who came in 13-7, I believe.

Plus the two big FTs at the end, which we know you loved.

WBB vs UAB
Couple of notes I saw in the box score and the standings:

As a team we were 7-12 from 3PT which percentage-wise more than accounts for our 6 point win. (They were 7-20).

This game stayed close all the way. Neither team ever had a double digit lead.

We’re now just a half game behind UTEP for the W5 seed and the chance to avoid the 6-7 play-in game.

I’m so tired of being behind UTEP in both flavors of BB!! We must surpass them!

And if not, maybe we should just take our ball and leave early (like the SB3.)

UTEP has played more games (5-9, compared to Rice's 3-8). I'm hearing we may not make up the lost UTSA road game (ice cancelation). It's still possible to be ahead of UTEP because Rice's remaining schedule is much easier than UTEP's, but it will require a sweep of them to be sure.

We're not going to catch UTEP on the men's side after their upset of Louisiana Tech on the road in Ruston last night.

Two players played 40 minutes. We are approaching a 5 games in 10 days portion of the schedule. Gonna be tough at the end to be competitive. If the refs in any game blow a lot of ticky-tack fouls, we may see a player walking on from the stands, a la TAMU. Hat's off to the players.

Are any of the injured players expected back this season?

Crosthwait seems to be recovering well from her procedure and her injury apparently was not as severe as originally anticipated...she would probably be available for the C-USA Tournament if she pushed it...I would think she probably won't be back but she might actually be available.

Nancy Mulkey transferred so she could play for a team that's 0-11 in conference. I can understand that Langley needs a few years to build a program, but when you have just 1 season to play, why go somewhere just to get crushed?

Maybe there were other reasons than just basketball.

Probably the coach-player relationship with Langley was a big factor.

Perhaps all those who have expressed so much concern with Edmonds this year should take a look at Langley's results this year to understand just how hard it can be.

Edmonds is clearly a good coach and the players fight to the end in every game. The issue with Edmonds this year was her refusal to aggressively work the transfer portal despite knowing going in that we had a severely depleted roster and a couple current players nursing injuries (not to mention still playing with COVID protocol).

Rice 73 - 67 final. Got closer than it should have with us fouling multiple times in final minute, but we kept hitting our free throws (31-36).
