What would even be the point of that?

My guess is to be the FCS version of what the ACC was trying to do in the FBS, which is to be THE Eastern seaboard conference. They are about to have programs from Massachusetts to South Carolina, including more of New York and New Jersey. All that would be left is to find institutions in Georgia and Florida to match their ambitions.

I have lost track of CAA expansion changes. Could someone please list what their FUTURE lineup will look like-- showing schools with FB and without.

Do they have 13 for future FB?

How many teams overall?

Do they have any FB only members?

THANK YOU in advance.

Maybe Winthrop to appease the southern schools?

yeah I like them a lot too, Probably more than Iona

I think adding Hampton and NC A&T gives Howard move cover to leave the MEAC, particularly since the Big South is down to 4 in FB (affiliate Robert Morris + Campbell, Gardner-Webb, and Charleston Southern). Just spin-off Big South football into its own separate league like the MVFC and CAA, and you could even call it the MEAC if you want. Then have a 9 school FB league with RMU, Delaware State, Morgan State, Norfolk State, North Carolina Central, Campbell, Gardner-Webb, South Carolina State, and Charleston Southern. If the league champ is an HBCU member they go to Celebration Bowl (if they want), and the second place team goes to the FCS playoffs. Seems more workable than trying to wholesale reshuffle the Big South and ASUN into FB and Non-FB leagues.

Why?

It’s giving another public NC school “a rub” for hoops. What does UNCW get from it?

Supposedly, CoC and Elon (was to be Davidson) were the peace offerings to UNCW back then. That UNCG and UNCA need not apply. I mean, things change (as it reflects with Stony getting in despite Hofstra). But these moves are just curious.

No offense, but I don’t think CAA was really itching to be MEAC malcontents’ landing spots?
UNCW has been begging for more Southern teams for 20 plus years. While it's not the basketball knockout we would want they are a solid overall athletic program that we can bus.

When the SoCon schools said no the Big South schools were the next best option.

Curious who the #14 add will be. Expecting a Southern non football to balance everything

Boo! 14 is too big for a one-bid league! 12 was fine. This did NOT need to happen.

I gotta say I don’t thin 14 for Olympic sports makes any sense.

Assuming NC A&T to the CAA, here's what the league will look like in the 2022-23 academic year:

Full members with FB (8): Delaware, Elon, Hampton, Monmouth, NC A&T, Stony Brook, Towson, William & Mary
FB-only members (6): Albany, Maine, New Hampshire, Richmond, Rhode Island, Villanova
Full members w/o FB (5): Charleston, Drexel, Hofstra, Northeastern, UNC Wilmington

Total full members = 13
Total FB members = 14

I expect they'll add a non-FB member to even that 13 out to 14.

RE: Breaking: NCA&T seeks approval to accept CAA Invite
A quick clarification. The North Carolina A&T trustees’ executive committee approved the move today, the board of trustees votes on Friday. I’ve been told elsewhere that the board vote is a formality and the move will be approved.

All sports except football and bowling would move to the CAA for the upcoming 2022-23 school year, football would move for the 2023-24 school year, bowling (which is still in the MEAC) wouldn’t move at all.

Hopefully we have more D2 callups to improve D1 athletics.

Big South replaces Hampton and NC A&T with Norfolk St. and NC Central maybe?

What’s the upside to those schools going to the Big South now though in its current condition?

Its an improvement on the MEAC. And it has a large number of potential expansion candidates as opposed to the MEAC which basically has none. The HBCUs in Division II that could move up have moved up.

Someone Tweeted at me saying that they heard Fairfield could be school number 14 (as a non-football member). That could make sense if it’s not Howard.

Wouldn’t Fairfield push Towson to the south division? Heard they want north

That would make sense. They are interested to join, they are already an affiliate in men’s lacrosse, have a brand new sports arena and provide a travel partner with Northeastern (was coupled with Hofstra but Stony Brook now makes more sense).

I don’t think there will be Divisions. I’m guessing Towson will be linked with Monmouth because Delaware/Drexel are already coupled. The balance make so much sense:
Northeastern/Fairfield
Stony Brook/Hofstra
Delaware/Drexel
Towson/Monmouth
W&M/Hampton
Elon/NC A&T
Charleston/UNCW

If NC A&T and Howard are added as thought previously, I could see divisions go like this:

FB
North:
Albany
Maine
New Hampshire
Rhode Island
Stony Brook

Central:
Delaware
Howard
Monmouth
Towson
Villanova

South:
Elon
Hampton
NC A&T
Richmond
William & Mary

BB
North:
Delaware
Drexel
Hofstra
Monmouth
Northeastern
Stony Brook
Towson

South:
Charleston
Elon
Hampton
Howard
NC A&T
UNC Wilmington
William & Mary

CAA Football is a separate legal entity from the CAA. The CAA doesn’t sponsor football.

It's kinda separate, but not to the level of the MVFC/MVC.

If you go on the CAA website they have a page for football - https://caasports.com/sports/football

Same offices, same commissioners, any school that's in the CAA and has football plays in the CAA.

The MVFC has its own website (https://valley-football.org/), I think they share a commissioner, but admission to the MVC doesn't get you in the MVFC.
