Penn State Tournament
NU Baseball will open the 2022 season in Cary, NC to play in the Penn State Tournament.

NU will face LIU Friday at 3 pm.

Saturday doubleheader vs. future CAA member Monmouth at 1 pm.

Sunday vs. Penn State at 10 am.

NU dropped the opener 5-3 to LIU.

Schlittler got the loss, pitching 4 innings, allowing 3 hits, 3 runs, 2 earned, 3 BB’s and 4 K’s. LIU’s #1 starter went 5 innings and held NU to just 1 hit and struck out 5.

DH Corey DiLoreto his a 3-run double in the 6th to cut NU’s deficit to 5-3, but that was it as NU had 4 just hits as a team.

Back at it Saturday in a DH against a Monmouth team that beat Penn State in the 1st game today.

Bounced back in the Saturday matinee to beat Monmouth. Pitching not as sharp as I expected these first two games, but I'm sure they'll improve. Is Crossen injured?

NU came back from a 4-0 deficit to beat Monmouth 10-5 in the first game of the twinbill. NU was down 4-1 in the 6th when freshman DH Jack Thorbahn ripped a 3-run homer to tie it at 4.

NU grabbed a 6-5 lead in the 9th on an error followed by a 3-run homer by freshman Mike Sirota.

Right now in game 2, Soph. Eric Yost got the start and he went 5 innings with a 2-1 lead. Game isn’t now tied 2-2 in the 6th.

NU split a doubleheader with Monmouth Saturday.

In Game 1, NU won 10-5. Freshman CF Mike Sirota went 4-5 including a 3-run homer in the 9th to NU 9-5 lead. Freshman DH Jack Thorbahn tied the game at 4 in the 6th with a 3- run homer. Babson transfer Jordy Allard got the win in relief, pitching 3 innings allowing 3 hits and 1 ER.

In Game 2, NU lost 12-5. Soph. RHP Eric Yost got the start and got a no decision (5 IP, 1H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 4 K) and left with a 2-0 lead. But relievers, James Quinlivan, Nick Davis, Thomas Balboni and freshman Jack Beauchesne got hit hard. Freshman OF Mark Darakjy hit a 2-run homer in the 7th to cut the deficit to 5-3.

NU takes on Penn State to cap the weekend at 10am today.

NU completes the weekend in North Carolina by beating Penn State 8-1. The win moves NU to 2-2 on the season.

Soph. starter Wyatt Scotti got the win, pitching 6 innings allowing 7 hits, 1 run earned, 0 BB and 2 K’s. In the 7th inning freshman Dennis Colleran made his collegiate debut and pitched the last 3 innings to record the save (3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K). Freshman CF Mike Sirota had another 4 hit game (4-5, 2B, RBI).

NU heads to Florida on Friday to face Minnesota in Ft. Myers before DH vs. Marshall Saturday and a game vs. Merrimack Sunday in the Snowbird Classic.
