And go where? MAC didnt want to expand and the SBC didnt want to take them. Independent is a death sentence unless you have full of cash like Liberty. Just because you hate CUSA and are leaving doesnt mean that the schools that are staying have that option.

The MAC had offered membership to both WKU and MTSU. They just wanted both of them or neither to keep the numbers even. WKU wanted to go badly, MTSU balked and for some unknown reason decided to stick with Judy, screwing over WKU in the process.

I completely forgot about that...

MTSU made a big mistake. They may not get invited back because of that decision. At the same time, it screws WKU. Anyone who gets a chance to leave, should run, and not look back. Very stupid move on Middle's part. Very, very stupid.

Agree with MT here... I just dont think that MT fits in the MAC, especially geographically.

When the MAC chatter started(for at least the third time in the last 20 years) talk around CUSA backfill was Tarleton State and McNeese and allegedly even Liberty was leaning towards "thanks but no thanks", if that was the reality for CUSA maybe the MAC may have made sense as an absolute last resort.

But stability is about the only really attractive thing about the MAC and if there was indeed talk of a long Grant of Rights, passing was absolutely the right move, and we likely saved WKU from making a very stupid move. Very, very, stupid.

Wasn't the GOR something ridiculous like 20 years?

Always the fallback reply from those getting called out, "Oh you woulda done it too if you were in our shoes...."

That was the rumor(or maybe even 25 years) and I can't say I don't get their perspective to an extent, our membership would be purely based on desperation on our part and we would absolutely have one eye on the exit at all times waiting for the first chance to get back into a southern based conference and it's not as if the MAC needs to add anyone, their current 12 full members have been together since 1998 with very little chance of any of them going anywhere.

Pretty sure this is the third time conversations have been had between the MAC and MT/WKU(it's for sure at least the second) and I just don't think it's ever really been the right fit for us.
