Memphis 2/15 7PM Game Thread
Memphis is the hottest team in the AAC with a 5-game winning streak.

Arguably the most talent in the AAC.

Talent is overcoming Penny coaching.

Look for a total beatdown.

That would seem most likely.

However, when I think of Memphis in the Penny years they've been consistently inconsistent. If they expect to roll the ball out in Fifth Third and win by just showing up, UC may get the last laugh. Win or lose, Memphis will have to go a long way to top that emotional win in Houston.

I think we are going to have to fire up a new "Vitamin D" thread for you Doss.

Some Positives To Focus On

-Had the greatest two year stretch in the 137 year history of UC football.
-Signed one of the most desirable coaches in college football to a five year extension
-Invited to join the BIG-12 conference, a power conference in football, and arguably the best conference in basketball
-Approved construction for new $70 million Indoor Practice Facility.

Doss is extremely anti-Wes Miller for some reason. From my point of view, Wes Miller has killed it off the court, and it's been a mixed bag on the court -- which was to be expected with the roster turnover, lack of returning talent, and less-than-ideal timing for a coaching change. I think he's going to be great, but this season was going to be tough no matter what.

I would love to see people's comments including Doss on Fickell in his first year. Wouldn't be surprised if many were still ragging on him until this past year. IIRC many thought he was nuts going with Dez until literally last year.

With that said, if we can finish strong down the stretch it would be big for going into next year. I've seen enough of Wes to think he is the real deal. When will everyone believe? Probably not until if/when he goes to a final 4 similar to Cronin. Unfortunately it may not be at this school but let's find out.

RE: Memphis 2/15 7PM Game Thread
I wasn’t impressed with Luke until the UCLA game his second year. My concern in year one had more to do with being unimpressed by his only year at Ohio State. To be honest I don’t think any of us expected things to turn around so quickly in year 2.

After year one here his coaching record was 10-15 overall. Coaches with overall losing records sometimes never recover and become losers.

The basketball program is an odd spot. Not bad enough to be a total rebuild, not good enough to matter. It’s also been a rather toxic program in a lot ways for a long time now. From the end of the Huggins years, NCAA tournament meltdowns, and the transition from Cronin to Brannen to Miller has fractured the fan base. There hasn’t been a unifying moment to bring this fan base together on the basketball side since the mid 90s.

Football seems to bring joy to the Bearcat fans.
Basketball seems to bring out anxiety and pain to Bearcat.

I think the historic bar that was set hurts this program because fans feel UC needs to get back there.

Anyway just beat Memphis.

I suspect I was not disappointed with Luke in year 1. I saw he had assembled a great staff including former head coaches (Joker Phillips comes to mind). He actually could of should have been 1-11 except for really dumb opposing coaches (Chuck Martin at the top of the list).

I understand that a football rebuild takes longer when following Bowlcation Tubberville type coaches. With basketball the turnaround should be faster.

Wes has allowed games to get away because he did not call time outs and then had them as worthless after the damage is done. I do not want a raving maniac but there have been numerous times when a Technical need to be taken to let the refs know we are getting screwed.

I do not know what this "killed it off the court" stuff is? Has he signed a top 50 or a couple top 100?

X has 2 top 100. We have ZERO. X is #15 we are #31

Still need an older transfer at any position that is an all conference level dude. Get one of those and next season looks a lot better.

Wut? How did the situation Wes followed help his rebuild for Year One? Most of the team left during and after the season because of the previous coach. It was toxic. Transition years are difficult enough let alone for a team with no players when Wes was hired. As I've said, he deserves a fair shake to get the program up and running. If the improvement is not there in a few seasons then I agree with "it's time to shake the trees again."

He’s not Bob Huggins and he’s short. Doss spent 13 years rooting for a coach to fail because of those He’s just getting warmed up with this one.

No Ado tonight. Pretty much fully healthy Memphis team.

This one could get ugly.

Ado is pretty much unable to score so hoping some of the other biggies step up their game. UC can win this if they play aggressive and hit shots.

True but he can play good defense and doesn’t foul every thirty seconds like the guys that will have to step in.

definitely true about the defense of Ado. He's frustrating to watch when he gets the ball under the basket and tries to pass it off instead of dunking. Terry Nelson has said on the radio, that it won't be long when we see UC biggies rebound and go up with a dunk.
