That’s facts… :).. thank you for that list … it shows a lot …

Unfortunately, Tulane appears in both the SEC and CUSA lists...

They are tied with Cincy in CUSA (I thought it was so much worse), and with Auburn in the SEC list (which there is nothing to be ashamed of).

Tulane spent a lot of years at like 4-8, which isn't last place but still bad.

The CUSA days weren’t good but Army and UTEP were beyond awful.

As you said, Tulane's performance was entirely respectable at the time they left the SEC. I wonder if Tulane isn't the GOAT loser of conference realignment...they voluntarily left the SEC when they weren't even a total doormat and have never made it back to the big leagues. They would be the Vandy of the West right now and rolling in money if they'd stayed.

Looks like Cincinnati's two years at the bottom of a conference were in 1998 and 1999. This was back when the league only played six conference games. The 1999 season was weird for Cincinnati, they actually beat eventual Big Ten Champion Wisconsin 17-12. The Badgers were led by RB Ron Dayne who went on to win the Heisman Trophy that year. UC went 0-6 in CUSA and lost an OOC game to an FCS team. That was the Rick Minter years in a nutshell.

Think of all the un-titles Rutgers and Temple cost themselves by playing as independents all those years.

There was a web-site that conjured up such a playoff. A team might score a touchdown, and then have the kick-off run back against them so that they could advance to the next round (losers advance).

In previous years they had a simple 4-team playoff. But this year they went to a true 12-team playoff, with Duke, Kansas, Indiana, Arizona, and Vanderbilt getting AQs. Duke, Indiana, and Vanderbilt had first round byes by virtue of their unvictorious conference records. If I recall correctly, Arizona got the fourth bye. Kansas and Arizona both had 1-8 conference records, but Kansas spoiled a possible winless non-conference record with their win over South Dakota. Arizona ran the table with losses to BYU, San Diego State and Northern Arizona.

It’s a wonder they got included in the Big 6 breakaway and not left behind like Oklahoma St did.

Yes, whatever the opposite of dynasty is, that's what Kansas State was. Is un-dynastic a word? They were definitely awful.

They weren't that bad before the Big 6/MVIAA split. They had six winning seasons in 15 years before the Big 6 split off. Not great, not terrible. They were also charter members, while Oklahoma A&M had come over from the SWC. Talk about ancient realignment losers in hindsight...Oklahoma A&M moving from the SWC to the Missouri Valley, only to be left behind in the Big 6 split three years later.

Kansas State had 2 winning seasons between 1954 and Bill Snyder's arrival in 1989. You could say that the traditions of Oklahoma and Nebraska were built on the back of Kansas State.

Someone ought to do one of these projects for men's basketball. I would do the women as well, but do you go back to 1982 or since 2000?
