Some UNT fans acting as if they were a high AAC priority
On twitter and message boards UNT fans are the loudest about the SBC3 leaving and how they should be allowed to join AAC early. Correct me if I'm wrong but UNT was never in the initial discussion and was only picked because the AAC couldn't get AFC and CS and wanted to slow the WMC expansion into Texas.
If this needs to be in the smack talk board feel free to move this thread, but I'm just like "Man, take your cake and be humble. You almost got left behind yourself or wound up in the SBC as well."

Nothing wrong with fans thinking highly of their program. Don't many of us believe CUSA is beneath the prestige of UAB Athletics?
Fans gonna fan....

Fans definitely gonna fan lol. I've got no insider info whatsoever, but I would also think that UNT wasn't the first priority target for the AAC. Purely my guess as an outsider but of the 6 teams added, I feel like the focus was first on the foursome of FAU, UAB, Charlotte, and UTSA as a good combination of onfield success plus markets (with Charlotte really just being market and potential for now). I feel like UNT and Rice were an extension of market but came about as trying to get ahead of the MWC trying to plant a flag in Texas.

The first focus was not anyone from c-usa except UAB to balance the hoped-for MWC additions

And I get it, "Fans gonna fan". Generally
And as much fun as I have on twitter going back and forth with the USM trolls, I'm not bitter about them going to the SBC. And why would I be?
That's like people trying to prove who got the better deal in realignment. Prove it on the field and in revenue.
I'm just ready to get this season over with so our farewell tour can get started.

This. Had they had the MWC additions, we would likely be the only team from CUSA invited.
Man… that would’ve been a hell of conference had that had worked out.

They have always thought it was all about them and this should should have been named C[onference]-UNT.

As a NT fan, I have no idea were this is coming from. There is little if any talk or desire for NT moving early to the AAC.
There is a bunch of talk about the Belt 3 leaving, but it is based more on why they want to leave early than any real concern of what they do.
As far as how the AAC expansion teams were selected, I only know what was written.
That it was primarily based on the potential of the programs and NT being in the DFW metroplex, they were an obvious choice.
I do doubt that UAB was a higher priority for the AAC then NT or others.

It is funny on the UNT boards they are listing this game as a trap game. That doesn’t quite make sense since trap game usually involve a lesser team right before a better game.

I’ve never seen an underdog say “this is a trap game”

It's a bit. One poster did it about a couple of games and then it took off. It will probably come up for each next opponent for eternity now.
