RE: Conference USA dying ?
CUSA had a legitimate tweener #6 that was probably a little stronger than the AAC - and they completely blew it.

I respectfully disagree, C-USA was at no time at any point in their history stronger than the AAC. Not with schools like Southern Miss and UAB in the conference. You can’t be taken seriously In college athletics playing in Hattiesburg, MS. I’m sorry but that’s just how it is.

‘Twas a time when CUSA had 6 teams dancing. AAC has only every managed 4. Also, UAB has as many Sweet 16 appearances as Tulane does tournament trips… leads the series between the schools 24-13. UAB also swept that home and home football series with Tulane and leads 6-4 all time. Trash athletics dept over in Nola. UAB was even nice enough to host them in the ‘Ham when the hurricane hit Nola. Jealous is ugly :)

This chaos is all a damn shame, and exactly why I keep saying that lame duck years should be absolutely as short as possible. Everyone should just move and get it over with... start building up revamped conferences and new rivalries.

I love random USM shade, but a lot of dominant programs reside in complete backwater towns.

Yeah, Oxford and Starkville. Auburn and Clemson (sorta). Iowa and Iowa State. Penn State and Virginia Tech. Is Columbia, MO small? ALTHOUGH all those smaller cities are much much nicer than Hattiesburg lol.

I feel like everyone tries to cry out “Tuscaloosa is small” but it is within an hour from Birmingham and pretty much just an exurb now. Also 250k people in the county, so not super small in it’s own right. The teams that play Alabama in football generally stay in Birmingham as well. You see tons of Tuscaloosa County car tags in Birmingham rush hour. I think people unfamiliar with the area just assume on it.

How would Oxford or Starkville possibly be considered nicer than Hattiesburg? Are you on dope?

I’ve got family in Hattiesburg. Family that taught at USM and William Carey. Visited many times. Been to Oxford and Starkville many times as well. I don’t even think Hattiesburg was CLOSE to those cities. MAYBE in chain retail shopping options because all that stuff down 98 by Turtle Creek. I’m really not even sure what else is comparable

...I know the last few times I've been thru H-Burg, the traffic was much worse than years past... a sign of population growth, I reckon...

What you all seem to miss, is that the AAC is dead, bc it took on the garbage from CUSA. Memphis may find its way out. ECU eventually to the SBC quite possibly (perhaps SMU as well). Tulane will fall the way of La Tech and Temple. Never a serious athletic program by any measure. Its both sad and funny.
